If you saw Penguins captain and still the best player in the world Sidney Crosby leave the ice after being hit in the head on an unintentional hit, it did not look good at all for him.
Crosby had just gone hard to the net in the first period of Game 3, got off-balance from a hit, slid between the legs of Washington defenseman Matt Niskanen, who instinctively used his stick to get Crosby out of the way and bashed him in the head.
The Pens leader struggled to get to his feet and never returned to the ice.
Because NHL teams are so vague about injuries, at this time we can only speculate Crosby might have suffered another concussion. (Update, Crosby has concussion and his return is unknown)
While head coach Mike Sullivan has what is almost a policy of – Just Play, Don’t worry about the rest – this is a different animal.
Because Crosby has a history of concussion, each following one is worse and if he cannot return in this series, this diminishes the chances of Pittsburgh as a choice for NHL picks not only in this series against Washington, but also looking ahead if the Penguins were to advance.
Let’s hope it was something else and Crosby can come back sooner, however, that was not the impression one had in watching it, which really could affect the NHL odds at Heritage or any other sportbook looking ahead.
