We have our weekend line moves ready to go for baseball along with some series wagering thoughts. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (173-126), to see what we are thinking. See you back here Tuesday.
MLB – (955) L.A. DODGERS at (956) MIAMI 7:05 ET SNLA, FSFL
Despite the fact the L.A. Dodgers are scalding hot, those betting baseball either lack the faith in Brandon McCarthy (6-3, 3.12 ERA) or like what the Marlins Dan Straily (7-4, 3.31) brings to this contest. The Dodgers have tumbled from -130 to -110, in part because Straily is a proven pitcher the last two years with an 11-3 mark as a home underdog of +100 or higher. (Team’s Record) While I see the upside in this thinking, L.A. is 42-20 vs. RH starters and Straily is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA in four career games against the Dodgers.
Betting Trend – 57% backing Miami
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Los Angeles
MLB – (971) SEATTLE at (972) CHIC. WHITE SOX 8:10 ET RTNW, CSN+
The recent form of tonight’s starting pitchers dictates Seattle rising like the tide from -160 to -180. Left-hander James Paxton (7-3, 3.21) will take the mound for Seattle in the series opener and in his past three starts, he has a 2.66 ERA. He will face James Shields (2-1, 4.95), whose been more hittable than a batting practice pitcher since coming off the DL last month in allowing 17 earned runs in his last 19 1/3 innings. Though the Mariners 16-25 road record is cause for concern, the money line adjustment places the M’s in 36-3 system of mine that is hard to bet against.
Betting Trend – 92% backing Seattle
Doug’s VPID Take – Seattle wins
MLB – ST. LOUIS (-110) at PITTSBURGH (-110) (Series Betting)
Both these NL Central rivals have disappointed this season. Though I prefer Gerrit Cole over Mike Leake in the series opener and the combination of Lance Lynn and Carlos Martinez is more formidable than Chad Kuhl and Trevor Williams. This is enough for me to side with St. Louis.
Betting Trend – 50-50 split
Doug’s VPID Take – St. Louis wins
MLB – TEXAS (+100) at KANSAS CITY (-120) (Series Betting)
The betting odds are close and so are the anticipated pitching matchup the first two days. For the series finale, you have to prefer Yu Darvish over Ian Kennedy, however, the other pair of tilts features Martin Perez vs. Jason Hammel and Cole Hamels taking on Jason Vargas. Texas is 14-4 against the Royals the past three years, but K.C. is playing better baseball, especially at home and finds a way to win this series. You should also know these clubs are 13-4-1 UNDER when facing each other in that same time span.
Betting Trend – 67% backing Kansas City
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Kansas City
MLB – TAMPA BAY (-110) at L.A.A. ANGELS (-110) (Series Betting)
The exact pitching rotation for this series for the Angels has not been released, but suffice to say, Tampa Bay, who is 2nd in starting pitcher ERA in the AL, has the clear edge. Unless Mike Trout returns and has monster series, hard to come up with many reasons to support the Halos.
Betting Trend – Split 50-50
Doug’s VPID Take – Tampa Bay wins
