A big weekend of college basketball and we have the latest line moves and anticipated ones. Plus, we have NBA action to cover. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (111-89-4 run) to see what we are thinking today. See you back here next week
NBA – (807) DALLAS at (808) CHICAGO 8:05 ET FSSW, WGN (side and total)
The Chicago Bulls are crumbling as fast as the “American Chopper” star who just filed for bankruptcy, being losers of 13 of 15 and beating the spread just three times. Because of this, the Bulls have gone from a Pick to +2 against visiting Dallas. What makes this a little nutty is the non-fighting Cubans have dropped 15 of 19, but they have covered their past seven of 10. Along with this, the total is up two points to 213.5. For picks, honestly, I would pass. As for opinions, a lean with Da Bulls because the Mavs are 0-7 ATS after a loss by three points or less this season and the UNDER, not trusting either offense.
Betting Trend – 58% backing Chicago and 87% on Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Slight leans Chicago and Under
NBA – (813) INDIANA at (814) MILWAUKEE 8:05 ET FSIN, FSWI
After playing strong defense under interim coach Joe Prunty, Milwaukee has reverted back to their old ways and been torched for over 118 points in their past five games. (however, two did go to OT) This has bettors calling for points and they shoved the total from 210.5 to 214. I am not sure we will see this many points and honestly, I could see this total backing up before game time and I’ll grab the UNDER at the higher number.
Betting Trend – 85% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under
CBB – (843) RHODE ISLAND at (844) DAVIDSON 8:00 ET CBSSN
A fascinating matchup in the A-10 finds Rhode Island at Davidson. After being unstoppable all season, the Rams are 2-2 (1-3 ATS) in their most recent games and look like a tired group. Having lost their home finale by 30 to a below average St. Joe’s team, oddsmakers made Rhode Island a 2.5-point road underdog. Those betting basketball were not buying it and they flipped the Rams to a one-point favorite. Rhode Island might well bounce back but they are 0-6 ATS as a road favorite of three points or less and Davidson is 11-1 SU at home.
Betting Trend – 57% backing Rhode Island
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Davidson
CBB – Saturday – (563) NOTRE DAME at (564) VIRGINIA 4:00 ET ACCN
What makes this intriguing is Bonzie Colson is back, so the actual line and outcome might be worth following. Or Virginia plays a perfect game and blows out Notre Dame. At -10 or less, I would lean with the Cavaliers.
Anticipated Line – Virginia by 10 to 12 points
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Virginia (at these numbers)
CBB – Saturday – (613) DUKE at (614) NORTH CAROLINA 8:15 ET ESPN
After really playing well, both teams come in with a loss and questions are raised about each yet again. The visitor is always where the value in this rivalry and no reason to change now.
Anticipated Line – North Carolina by 2 to 4 points
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Duke
CBB – Saturday – (629) UCLA at (630) USC 10:15 ET ESPN
USC lost in the final minute to UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in the previous confrontation. The Trojans have played with more maturity all season and especially so since losing Benny Boatwright for the season. The Men of Troy get it done.
Anticipated Line – USC by 4 to 6 points
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean USC
NBA – Saturday – (507) BOSTON at (508) HOUSTON 8:35 ET ABC
Boston won 99-98 at home in the previous meeting right after Christmas and have busted out of the break 4-0 SU. Both teams are rested and should be ready to go and I see the Houston putting the Celtics away late to win and cover.
Anticipated Line – Houston by 5 to 7 points
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Houston
CBB – Sunday – (815) CINCINNATI at (816) WICHITA STATE 12:00 ET CBS
Wichita State can tie for the AAC title with a victory but can claim winning the crown if the sweep Cincinnati. The Shockers have not shown as well as most expected but if they win this contest they deserve the plaudits and I can see them winning before the home folks on a wild Senior Day.
Anticipated Line – Wichita State by 1 to 3 points
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Wichita StatE
