Not much early action in the NBA for line moves, thus, we have just one contest in The Association and three games in college basketball. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (75-60-3 run) to see what we are thinking this week. See you back here Friday
NBA – (717) BOSTON at (718) L.A. CLIPPERS 10:35 ET ESPN
Boston’s slump continued last night with a fourth consecutive loss, getting out-rebound by 9 and being -13 in free throws made in the one-point setback. The Celtics did not even have to move after playing the Lakers and are at the Staples Center again to face the Clippers. Just like yesterday, the wagering action is on the total, which has grown like my waist-line from 214.5 to 218. I could make a case for the Over, but I will stick with the UNDER, with the Celtics 28-10 UNDER in road games after a loss by six points or less.
Betting Trend – 54% backing Under
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under
CBB – (723) RHODE ISLAND at (724) FORDHAM 7:00 ET STADIUM-CBB
In A-10 action, you know, the league with 14 teams in it, (wink wink) sportsbooks released a line of Rhode Island at -16, which made perfect sense. The Rams are winning conference games by 15.7 PPG and Fordham is losing those same contests by 15.4 PPG. Hoops bettors are in disagreement, dropping Rhode Island to -14.5. The Rams sit atop the A-10 at 7-0 (5-1-1 ATS) and this is one of my “want to” selections. If Rhode Island wants to win and cover, they do. If they doddle around with the other Rams, they will not cover. I have a 27-7 Super System that says Rhode comes up short.
Betting Trend – 63% backing Rhode Island
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Fordham
CBB – (735) NEBRASKA at (736) RUTGERS 7:00 ET BTN
In this Big Ten battle, we have an intriguing flipper. Rutgers was sent out at +1 and has come back at -2 over visiting Nebraska. Why I say this is fascinating is because the Children of the Corn (Rece Davis drop) are 6-4 ATS away from Lincoln and the Scarlet Knights are 7-1 ATS at home. Both teams play good defense, but my concern in road/home scenario, where the Huskers average three more 3-pointers a game.
Betting Trend – 64% backing Nebraska
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Nebraska
CBB – (753) TEMPLE at (754) CINCINNATI 9:00 ET CBSSN
In my world, there are two reasons why a total in college basketball would move four points like this AAC encounter has. Either a top player is returning or a combo of a bad number and sharps jumping on it. The latter is the best explanation for total climbing from 123 to 127. Because the game is in Cincinnati, I will back the OVER and the Bearcats are 12-2 OVER at home after two or more consecutive wins.
Betting Trend – 75% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over
