Useful Line Moves and Free Picks for Jan. 24th

With Blake Griffin back for the Los Angeles Clippers, that is by far the biggest line move of the day, in game with Philadelphia (4.5 points). However, for line moves, we are interested in those that happen because of public opinion or sportsbooks being forced to adjust by money wagered on particular situation. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks, to see what we are thinking. See you back here tomorrow.

NBA – (701) BOSTON at (702) WASHINGTON 7:05 ET  CSN-NE, CSN-MA

With players making so much money these days, it is good to see a refreshing rivalry where teams really don’t like each other, just like in this Eastern Conference confrontation. Those betting basketball have focused their attention on the total and lowered it three points to 217. Though both teams have strong OVER tendencies, the lower score makes a great deal of sense to me, but wipes out quite a bit of value to playing the UNDER. Both my numbers came up 216, thus I’ll lean that way.

Betting Trend – 52% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under

The last time Minnesota swept Phoenix in a season series was the 2003-04 season and they will be out to complete the task in the cool desert tonight. If they are to accomplish this, those making NBA picks are convinced it will be a higher scoring affair and elevated the total from 211 to 213.5. Both teams have been shooting the ball very well lately and not done a great job playing defense, leading to line movement. Initial reaction was thinking about lower score, but after finding the Suns 12-2 OVER after scoring 110 points or more (average total score 222.3), had to rethink position.

Betting Trend – 96% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Over

CBB – (741) VIRGINIA at (742) NOTRE DAME 8:05 ET  ACCN	In almost every contest, Virginia is able to dictate tempo, which is precisely why the Cavaliers are having another great season and are 10-6 ATS and 10-6 UNDER. That said, the flow of the total has been going up and down like an elevator. The total opened at 130.5, went all the way to 137, before settling back at present number of 134. This could be a very fluid number right up until game time with Notre Dame 9-5 OVER this year and the betting trend decidedly one-way action. Though Virginia does a great job on defense, not sure they will contain the Irish at home.

Betting Trend – 86% backing Under

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over

In all the years we have been doing line moves articles, it is pretty rare to have a MAC matchup to have the biggest line movement on sides action. Eastern Michigan has gone backwards from -9 to -7 in this contest of 12-7 clubs. Two reasons for this to occur and it starts with Ball State having a 12-6 and 11-6-1 ATS record in Ypsilanti. The other potential reason is though the Eagles are a high-flying offensive team at home at over 90 PPG, the Cardinals are close to 80 PPG, average three more 3-pointers per game and are slightly better defensively. We will side with direction of move.

Betting Trend – 68% backing Eastern Michigan

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Ball State

Public Consensus Record (2017) – 51% to 79% – 21-18 ATS

Public Consensus Record (2017) – 80% or Higher – 9-12 ATS

Line Movement Direction Record (2017) – 30-30 ATS
