As those betting baseball and the hundreds of Tampa Bay fans know, Stanek is the Rays main opener starter. This will be his 23rd start and he’s been highly effective in this role with a 1.85 ERA. The Rays are 14-8 in the Overland Park, KS native starts, however, this is more of a reflection of the team’s performance than Stanek’s it would seem. Of concern for the right-hander in his last four outings that have lasted one inning or 1 1/3, he’s allowed one run in three of the four games and issued four walks.
It was fun while it lasted, but baseball bettors knew Martin Perez (7-3, 4.28) would eventually return to who he is. The left-hander’s ERA is now at a season high and up nearly 1.50 since May 6 (2.83). In Perez’s last three starts covering 16 2/3 innings, he surrendered 15 runs (12 earned) and continues to walk too many opposing hitters.
