Thursday afternoon is flooded with afternoon games, with eight of the 11 on the MLB docket scheduled under natural light. (Except for Tampa Bay who plays in a dungeon, but you get the point) Thus, we turn our attention to a couple of baseball night contests for Line Moves and toss in a bonus CFL matchup. As always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.
MLB – (959) HOUSTON at (960) SAN DIEGO 10:05 EDT FSH, FSD
The Astros and Padres are among the worst scoring teams in baseball, ranking 25th and 30th respectively in the majors. Both Houston’s Lucas Harrell (7-6, 4.43 ERA) and San Diego’s Edinson Volquez (5-7, 3.69) have pitched better of late, with earned run averages of three or less in their last trio of trips up the hill. This has given baseball bettors confidence to lower the total from 6.5 to 6. While this strategy seems sound on the surface, Harrell is 2-5 with a 6.21 ERA on the road and the ‘Stros are 20-11 OVER after three or more contests away from Houston. With San Diego hovering around a -150 money line favorite, they are 19-7 OVER as a home favorite of -125 to -175. 3DW Position – Play Over
MLB – (971) N.Y. YANKEES at (972) OAKLAND 10:05 EDT YES, CSCA
The Oakland A’s pitching staff has permitted the fewest runs in the American League at 3.7 per game, but the sight of Bronx Bombers in the batter’s box, sends a cool chill down the spine of Athletics hurlers. The Yankees have won nine straight in Oakland, averaging 5.6 runs per game. Those betting on baseball have taken note and also can follow New York has tallied 6.5 RPG in their last 10 outings. This information has helped lift the total from 7.5 to 8, despite the A’s are 40-19 UNDER against right-hand starters like Freddy Garcia. 3DW Position – Play Over
CFL – Friday – (425) EDMONTON at (426) BRITISH COLUMBIA 10:00 EDT TSN
Western Division rivals collide on Friday with sole possession of second place at stake. British Columbia is the defending Grey Cup champions and suffered their first loss of the season last week at Saskatchewan, losing 23-20. Edmonton finally found an offense, tallying 42 points against Winnipeg after scoring just 20 total points the first two contests. Neither teams passing game is clicking thus far, both in the lower half of the stats for throwing. With the Eskimos inconsistent on offense but playing solid defense (14 PPG allowed), the total has shrunk from 49.5 to 48. Edmonton comes in 11-3 OVER versus rushing teams averaging six or more yards a carry, while the Lions are 34-14 UNDER versus poor offensive squads averaging 340 yards a game. 3DW Position – Play Over
