All of these teams have a few more flaws, at least going into the season, but as we have witnessed many times, what looks right on paper is not how things always work out and it’s not unusual to find a squad that was not receiving a great deal of attention to come off the pace and surprise us.
Oregon – Justin Herbert (+3300)
Some were surprised Herbert returned but with an improved Oregon squad with a real chance to win the Pac-12, it was a good choice. Herbert likely also realized he could use a little more seasoning and improve his draft status and if he could lead the Ducks to the CFP, that would be special.
Notre Dame – Ian Book (+4000)
Though not your prototypical dual-threat quarterback, Book has improved in throwing, running and decision-making each season. Notre Dame is about where they were last year as far as odds to reach the playoffs again and if Book and his teammates can win at Georgia and at Michigan, they are positioned for a repeat of last year.
