A sprinkle of several different sports highlights the Thursday card. Always review the nuggets since they are worth a look.

CFB – (225) NOTRE DAME vs. (226) FLORIDA STATE  5:30 EST  ESPN

The Champs Bowl in Orlando is a sellout with two above average underachievers with brand name recognition doing battle. The total in the contest has caught the bettor’s attention, moving from 48 to 46.5. Florida State’s defense is ranked No.6 nationally and the Seminoles have a poor running game. Notre Dame’s defense is not as good at 37th overall and they also have issues running the ball. The Seminoles are three-point favorites and are 15-4 UNDER in that role. Update – The total has remained steady. 3DW PositionPlay Under but only if you think Florida State is the right side

CFB – (227) WASHINGTON vs. (228) BAYLOR 9:00 EST  ESPN

Robert Griffin III will draw the focus of attention being the Heisman Trophy winner, however the wagering public sees two defenses that are allowing a combined 82.6 points when they play away from home and shifted the total from 77 to 78.5. Griffin leads an explosive Baylor offense that can generate big plays and Washington’s QB Keith Price and RB Chris Polk can also change digits on the scoreboard rapidly. The Bears are 10-2 OVER this season. Update – This total has continued to climb, up to 79.5 at last look.  3DW PositionPlay Over

NBA – (503) SAN ANTONIO at (504) HOUSTON 8:05 EST  FSSW, FSH

The money is chasing San Antonio who has looked sharp in two outings. The Spurs opened at +1 and have been turned around to -2.5 on the road against their division rivals. No question part of the reason is the success San Antonio has enjoyed in southeast Texas (18-12 SU and 17-13 ATS) and the fact they are 11-2 ATS off consecutive home wins by 10 points or more the last two seasons. 3DW PositionHouston covers

CBB – (577) USC at (578) CALIFORNIA 9:00 EST  CSCA

Despite Cal at 10-3 and 8-3 ATS and playing at home against a 5-8 USC team, the Bears have been declawed by two points down to -10. The Trojans control tempo and play fundamental defense and is 6-0 ATS in road games after allowing 65 points or less in five straight outings. California does come in at 7-1 ATS as a favorite this season and is 15-6 ATS as chalk of 10 or more points the last three seasons. 3DW PositionUSC covers

NHL – (53) PHILADELPHIA (54) PITTSBURGH 7:05 EST CSP, ROOT

Much of the noise surrounding this bitter matchup is the return of Jaromir Jagr to Pittsburgh, in a Philadelphia uniform no less. However, puckhead bettors are more interested in recent form. The Flyers have dropped four of five after winning seven straight, while Pittsburgh is seeking their fifth consecutive win. The Penguins have been moved from -120 to -135 on the money line, but don’t sell Philly short as they have won four of six when traveling across Pennsylvania. Nevertheless, Pitt is 24-5 home against defensive teams allowing 2.85 or more goals a game. 3DW PositionPittsburgh wins
