On Wednesday, basketball bettors have agreed with the NBA Playoff numbers and there has been very little movement in the two scheduled contests. On the diamond, the oddsmakers totals on the Cardinals and Giants game has gone down from 7 to 6.5 and the Indians and Mariners number has risen from 7 to 7.5. Here is a preview of the rest of the action and always review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.
NHL – (7) NEW JERSEY at (8) NEW YORK 8:05 EDT MSNBC, RDS
The Rangers were thought to be too pooped to play Game 1, instead they shutout a rested New Jersey bunch and went on to victory. The New York defense bottled up the Devils and puck-stopper Henrik Lundqvist kicked out the rest in 3-0 shutout. Most underdog bettors figured this was New Jersey’s best chance to pull an early upset and the wagering public has rethought their position on New York and lifted them from -122 to -135 on the money line. Interesting of note, the Rangers are 0-5 when leading in the postseason. 3DW Position – New Jersey wins
MLB – (953) PITTSBURGH at (954) WASHINGTON 7:05 EDT RT, MASN
Washington is 13-5 (+6.1 units) at home and has yet to lose consecutive games on the home turf in 2012. They will put that to the test again tonight after falling to San Diego last evening. The Nationals will entrust Gio Gonzalez (4-1, 1.94) to keep the streak alive and he has the numbers in his favor, like opponents are hitting .114 at home against him and leading the majors with 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings. Nevertheless, Washington has crumbled from a -165 betting choice to -150 or less at most sportsbooks. In the past three seasons, Gonzalez is 21-6 as a favorite of -125 to -175. (Team’s Record) 3DW Position – Washington wins
MLB – (959) PHILADELPHIA at (960) CHIC. CUBS 8:05 EDT Local Comcasts (side and total)
Because of an injury to Philly starter Vance Worley, Kyle Kendrick (0-3, 7.32) will make the spot start and baseball bettors are punching the numbers on the side and the total. The Cubs opened as -135 favorites with Matt Garza (2-1, 2.56) toeing the slab and that number has been beefed up to -150 or higher. What is enthralling about the pitching change is the total has actually been lowered from 7.5 to 7, which does not compute on the handicapping level. The Cubs come in 21-49 having won two of their last three games, while Kendrick is 27-11 OVER in road night tilts. 3DW Position – Cubs win and Over
MLB – (971) MINNESOTA at (972) DETROIT 7:05 EDT FSNO, FSD
Minnesota has the worst record in the big leagues at 10-26 by scoring just 3.3 runs per game (28th) and permitting 5.3 RPG (29th). This unsavory combination has totals players thinking big, raising the total from 9 to 9.5. It helps the Nick Blackburn (1-4, 7.18) is pitching for the Twins with his unsightly ERA and Tigers hurler Rick Porcello (3-3) isn’t missing a ton of bats with his 5.18 earned run average. Minnesota is 21-8 OVER vs. an AL starting pitcher whose ERA is 4.70 to 5.20 and Detroit is an astonishing 13-0 OVER after seven or more road encounters. 3DW Position – Play Over
MLB – (979) CHIC. WHITE SOX at (980) L.A. ANGELS 10:05 EDT CSN+, FSW
As mentioned here and at the 3DailyWinners site, Gavin Floyd (3-3, 2.53) tends to pitch in segments, good or bad. Floyd has been in a good groove with a 2-0 mark and a 1.27 ERA in his last three starts. The Angels Jerome Williams (3-1, 4.19) will be back in his usual rotation spot after coming out of the bullpen in Texas due to a long rain delay. Williams was hammered for six runs over 6 2/3 innings by the Rangers, but prior to that 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA in his last four starts. Those betting on baseball are not sold on the Williams and the Halos and lowered them almost 20 cents to -112. If it smells like a rat, it might be rat, with Chicago 13-30 after five or more consecutive home games and L.A. of A. 2-8 after allowing two runs or less this season. 3DW Position – Lean with the Angels to win
