This season will mark the 20th year of Tennessee Titans football and it will include new uniforms, new helmets, and a new head coach. But will it include another playoff showing like last year?
Tennessee was a wild card club last year and won outright at Kansas City 22-21 as nine-point road underdogs. They advanced to face top-seeded New England and lost 35-14 as chalk-laden 15.5 point pooches. Ownership believed the Titans had not fulfilled their potential and jettison Mike Mularkey and brought in Mike Vrabel to be their head coach.
Those setting the numbers at sportsbooks are not convinced a coaching change will improve Tennessee, just the opposite, as you can see looking at various NFL odds just below.
Odds to Win AFC South – +380 – 3rd
Odds to Win the AFC – +2000 – T-9th
In reading all the preseason magazines, nobody has Tennessee winning the AFC South and Lindy’s actually has them picked fourth.
2018 – 8
2017 – Ov8.5 (9-7 record)
2016 – Ov5.5 (7-9 record)
2015 – Un.5.5 (5-11 record)
Jacksonville might be a little better and if Andrew Luck, Deshaun Watson, and J.J. Watt can play 15 or 16 games, you know Indianapolis and Houston will have better records. If the Titans can survive their first nine rugged games and have a 5-4 or 4-5 record, they would have a legitimate chance at a 5-2 finish and returning to the postseason.
