On Tuesday, Toronto and the Yankees are playing a day/night doubleheader and New York was juiced up 40 cents as home favorites in the matinee. With Texas beating Houston regularly, the Rangers are also up nearly 40 cents as chalk. We did find four other contests in to review the line moves for today. We ask you to review all the line moves and we also share our opinions on the outcomes.
MLB – (953) L.A. DODGERS at (954) MIAMI 7:10 ET KCAL, FSFL
It has been since June 8-10 the Dodgers have lost three in a row and they are facing that possibility against Miami of all teams tonight. Los Angeles has manufactured a number of inconceivable comebacks the past two-plus months and will have to deal with another young Marlins hurler in Jacob Turner (3-4, 2.89 ERA), who is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA in eight starts at Marlins Park. L.A. counters with fifth-starter Chris Capuano (4-6, 4.66) and while he’s been mildly effective, the Dodgers offense has helped and won his past six starts. Manager Don Mattingly’s club opened at -140 and jumped swiftly to -155. All the numbers favor the visitor, yet the Dodgers offense is off over a half a run compared to season average (3.4 vs. 4.1) the last seven contests. SWM Take – Lean with Miami
MLB – (955) ATLANTA at (956) N.Y. METS 7:10 ET SPSO, SNY
The Atlanta Braves have a substantial lead in their division and have to keep the peddle on the floorboard to not lose their focus before the postseason. Winning can build an air of invincibility and the Braves have won 19 of 22 and Brandon Beachy (2-0, 4.50) will try and extend that streak. After a sketchy beginning coming off of Tommy John surgery, the right-hander has won twice while posting a 1.29 ERA. These two factors have played a part in Atlanta becoming a peachy choice, growing from -135 to -150. Zack Wheeler (5-2, 3.43) will try and slow down the Braves in the Mets first contest at home after an 11-game road trip. New York is 8-3 with Wheeler in the underdog role. SWM Take – Atlanta wins
MLB – (971) TAMPA BAY at (972) BALTIMORE 7:05 ET SUN, MASN
Tampa Bay is in an intriguing position. They are in second place in the AL East despite having one less loss than division-leader Boston, but at the same time are fighting to strengthen their wild card position. Beating Baltimore like they did last night helps on both fronts and they will have Alex Cobb (7-2, 2.94) toe the slab for a second time since coming off the DL. Cobb was having a solid season before being beaned by the baseball and is working his way back for a club which has won five of six. Baltimore was a -115 favorite behind Miguel Gonzalez (8-5, 3.84), who has not won in exactly a month, and has tumbled to a Pick. Gonzalez and the Birds are 12-3 at home since last year. SWM Take – Lean with Baltimore
MLB – (979) SEATTLE at (980) OAKLAND 10:05 ET ROOT, CSCA
Oakland’s Sonny Gray (1-1, 1.00) has been compared to Tim Hudson when they were similar ages and pitching for the A’s. Both have a slight build and are not your prototypical power pitchers you find today. Gray will make his second start for Oakland against Seattle’s Joe Saunders (10-12, 4.86). The Mariners left-hander has an unlucky 7.77 ERA over his last five starts and Gray also adds general uncertainty. Those betting baseball do not trust the total of 8 and maneuvered it to 8.5. While we prefer the Under, we find the M’s are 14-3 OVER in road tilts after allowing three runs or less in two straight games the last two seasons. SWM Take – Lean with Over
