Another wagering week starts and besides the four games below, baseball bettors have lost some faith in Toronto, dumping them 20 cents to -175 on the money line against Minnesota. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
NHL – (55) LOS ANGELES at (56) NEW YORK 8:05 E NBCSN
Even Rangers coach Alain Vigneault knows this is essentially a “must win” game and he’s picked up hockey bettors along the way for support. Down 2-0 in the series after two tough OT losses, New York opened as -120 choice and has been bet up to -135. Chances are if the Blueshirts build a 2-0 lead on home ice they are less likely to give away a lead, but as we have seen, with Los Angeles, anything is possible. The Rangers are 16-4 after single goal road loss, but do not short-change the Kings who are 8-0 after two one goal wins since last season. SWM Take – New York wins
MLB – (903) L.A. DODGERS at (904) CINCINNATI 7:10 E ESPN
This could come down to which starting pitcher can keep the ball in the park. Dan Haren (5-4, 3.50 ERA) has been tagged for seven home runs in 24 innings, while Tony Cingrani (2-6, 4.09) has surrendered an unlucky seven over the fence in 22 2/3 innings since coming off shoulder tendinitis. Besides the starting pitchers struggling, both bullpens have been prone to miscues and baseball bettors prefer the chances of the home team, flipping Cincinnati from +105 to -110. No glaring reasons why the Reds are the new choice other than Haren being 4-11 after giving up two or more home runs in his last outing since last year. (Dodgers record) SWM Take – Lean Cincinnati
MLB – (907) WASHINGTON at (908) SAN FRANCISCO 10:15 E MASN2, CSN-BA
Washington is finally playing up to preseason predictions in winning seven of nine; however they open a series against the team with the best record in baseball. It appears those betting on baseball have honed in on the results of the starting pitchers versus the respective opponent. Stephen Strasburg (5-4, 3.10) is 2-0 in three career starts versus San Francisco with a 1.89 ERA, while his pitching counterpart Ryan Vogelsong (4-2, 3.39) is 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA over his last four outings, yet has a 8.73 ERA against the Nationals in three outings. Washington was sent out by sportsbooks at -110 and pumped up to -130. The Giants however are 22-9 at AT&T Park. SWM Take – San Francisco wins
MLB – (913) BOSTON at (914) BALTIMORE 7:05 E NESN, MASN
Did last night’s dramatic ninth inning win set Boston on another streak? Since May 15, the Red Sox have had losing or winning streaks of 10, 7 and 5 and will try to make it two straight wins traveling the Baltimore. The BoSox are a solid 13-4 away having lost three of their last four games and hand the ball to Jake Peavy (1-3, 4.72), who has not won his last seven starts and has a ginormous 7.04 ERA in his last five outings. Nonetheless, Boston has sunk from +120 to +100 and will take on Bud Norris Bud (4-5, 4.41), who is 24-12 at home when the money line is +125 to -125 in his career. (Team’s Record) SWM Take – Baltimore wins
