On Tuesday, we have fair number of totals that are seeing line moves, but we decided to concentrate our baseball efforts on the sides action. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
MLB – (901) PHILADELPHIA at (902) WASHINGTON 7:05 E CSN-P, MASN
Jordan Zimmermann (3-2, 4.07 ERA) has been one of the top pitchers in the National League the last few years, though he’s not been as effective thus far. Those betting baseball see him having little trouble with Philadelphia. Washington was released by oddsmakers at -170 on the money line and has been built up to -190. The Phillies hit the road after a grotesque 4-7 homestand. Philly has lost 12 of the past 18 at Nationals Park but are 8-0 having lost four of their last five games this season. SWM Take – Washington wins
MLB – (905) N.Y. METS at (906) CHIC. CUBS 8:05 E SNY, CSN-C
The Mets are creeping ever closer to .500 and are 15-12, +6.8 units on the road yet they have been pushed from -115 away favorites to +107 underdogs. It is not obvious for the switch with the pitching matchup of Zack Wheeler (2-5, 4.31) and Jake Arrieta (1-1, 3.20) not offering any clues. While a small case can be made for Chicago, who is 16-8 after allowing eight or more runs, they are also 5-18 after being shutout and 14-29 versus right-handed starters this season. SWM Take – New York wins
MLB – (909) PITTSBURGH at (910) SAN DIEGO 10:10 E ROOT-P, FSSD
The Pirates have started to turn the ship around, winning four of five and nine of 13 to draw closer to a .500 record. After a hefty 10-3 beatdown of San Diego last night, Pittsburgh was sent out by sportsbooks at -135, but has come back to -120. Gerrit Cole (5-3, 3.80) pitches for the Bucs against Jesse Hahn, who was called up from Double-A San Antonio, where he went 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 10 games this season, including seven starts. With Pittsburgh batting .315 with runners in scoring position in this winning stretch and 19-9 in June dating back to last season, you have to like the shorter odds. SWM Take – Pittsburgh wins
MLB – (919) L.A. ANGELS at (920) HOUSTON 8:10 E FSW, CSN-H
Fresh off having their butts handed to them in Oakland, the Angels will try and hang on to second place in the AL West facing Houston. The Halos hope to have Josh Hamilton back in some capacity in this series and starter C.J. Wilson (6-4, 3.05) has gone 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA over his last three starts and is 5-2 with a 2.45 ERA in nine starts against Houston. Despite this, L.A. has crumbled from -135 to -120 at Houston, where they have won nine of their past 13. The exploits of Collin McHugh (3-3, 2.80) certainly play into the line movement as does the Angels recent failures. However, after seven straight wins, the Astros lost the final two of the series against Baltimore, batting .189 as a team in the four-game set. Pick your poison with the Stros 3-16 at home revenging a one run loss and the Halos 2-14 in road games vs. an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.100 or better.SWM Take – Lean with Los Angeles
