In reviewing the betting odds for today, definitely in my opinion has a strange feel to it. Let’s take a look at five matchups across the board of various sports and attempt to determine what those assembling sports picks are thinking. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (377-320 L127D)
NBA – (505) HOUSTON at (506) PHOENIX 8:05 ET TNT
Phoenix has lost four of five and the absence of Eric Bledsoe has not helped (maternity, his wife’s) and the continued slump of Goran Dragic (41.8% L9G) has only made matters worse. Yet despite this, the Suns have gone from a Pick to -2 and Twitter reports have Bledsoe now listed as ‘probable’. Houston was in the desert 18 days ago as a bucket underdog against the NBA odds and came away with a 113-111 nail-biter. The Rockets enter this contest off a setback and are 12-3 ATS after one or more losses. SWM Take – Houston covers
NBA – (509) DENVER at (510) L.A. LAKERS 10:35 ET TNT
The second half of the TNT Tuesday twin-bill is basketball bettors special, because this will not worth watching. Denver is 1-13 (3-9-2 ATS) since Jan. 16th and has lost six straight. The Lakers of Los Angeles have the exact matching SU and ATS record in their past 14 games, with their losing streak at four. The Lakers have been boosted from a Pick to -2 and the only reason I can think of for this would be it is -5 Hour Energy Night – as a promotion to try their new flavors and Los Angeles as the home team gets to sample. The Nuggets at 3-12 ATS off a double digit defeat probably helps. SWM Take – Slight lean Lakers
CBB – (513) MEMPHIS at (514) EAST CAROLINA 7:00 ET ESPNU
For those not familiar with my thoughts on Memphis coach Josh Pastner, I believe he is one of the five most overrated college basketball coaches. When he was on John Calipari’s staff, he was a great recruiter which is why he got the job. Presently, he his recruiting efforts have tailed off, explaining why the Tigers are only 14-9 this season and his half court offense continues to be among the poorest run in the game. Others are not impressed with Memphis either and they have blown up from +3 to +5.5, with East Carolina having covered five straight. Putting personal feelings aside as college basketball handicapper, even I see this as too many points and realize the Tigers are 7-0 ATS having dropped two of three. SWM Take – Memphis covers
CBB – (529) GEORGETOWN at (530) SETON HALL 7:00 ET FS-1
Let’s be honest, on the surface backing either one of these inconsonant teams is problematic. Since beating Villanova and Marquette at home, Georgetown has returned to their turbulent ways with a 1-3 SU and ATS record. Seton Hall has been even worse at 2-5 SU and ATS, shooting under 37 percent in their past two defeats. No matter, there has been a torrent of Hoyas cash and they have been flipped from +1.5 to -3 at many sportsbooks. No question this a challenging choice, but I was leaning with the Pirates before the switch and I will call for them to steal a victory as an underdog playing at home where they are 9-3 and 8-3 ATS. SWM Take – Seton Hall covers
NHL – (65) TAMPA BAY at (66) NASHVILLE 8:05 ET SUN
Quite a few overnight goalie changes have affected the NHL lines, but this one comes down to preference. Nashville was released as -135 home favorites on the money line and has been driven to -160 by cash on the barrel head. Here is why this occurred, the Predators have one regulation loss on home ice and are 21-4 overall. Tampa Bay has lost its past five away outings and the lamp beyond their goal has been flashing instead of going on and off intermittently in surrendering 20 goals in those contests. Toss in the Preds are 12-0 on home ice after a road game, what’s not to like! SWM Take – Nashville wins
