Sports Watch Monitor Line Moves and Top Trends for Feb. 5th

For tonight on the betting odds board, we have a pair of NBA totals rising faster than the heat on NBC anchorman Brian Williams, along with two college basketball contests and NHL game which has flipped favorites. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (372-311 L124D)

NBA – (503) L.A. CLIPPERS at (504) CLEVELAND  8:05 ET  TNT

Cleveland CavaliersThe Cavaliers have won 11 in a row (9-2 ATS) despite the fact Kevin Love is shooting 37.2 percent – 29.4 from 3-point range – from the field in the last 10. With the Clippers 20th in points allowed on the road, those placing sports picks think Love can break out of shooting slump or at least his teammates will cover for him and elevated total two points to 208. This is a curious move as Los Angeles is 5-1 UNDER in their last six games and Cleveland is 6-0 UNDER. Going against the public with the Cavs 17-5 UNDER when playing six or more games in 10 days this season. SWM Take Play Under

NBA – (507) PHOENIX at (508) PORTLAND  10:35 ET  TNT

The Suns are 6-2 and 7-1 ATS versus Portland which includes being 4-0 ATS at the Moda Center, but those making NBA picks are more fascinated with the total and sent it from 210 to 212. That would lead me to believe the sportsbooks adjustment upward signifies hoops bettors are convinced Phoenix will dictate the tempo as the average total score of Portland’s last five outings has been 196.8. Here is the same angle with different results for each team. When the Suns face a team which as 83 or more attempts per contest, they are 16-5 OVER. When the Trail Blazers face the very same opponent which hoists up that many attempts, they are 14-5 UNDER.  SWM Take Lean Under

CBB – (509) RICHMOND at (510) LASALLE  6:30 ET  NBCSN

Richmond is 5-2 and 7-0 ATS in recent A-10 matchups, with two three-point road losses. That is why I find it a bit puzzling the Spiders have gone from -1 to +1.5 at LaSalle, who is 7-3 and 2-3 ATS at home this season. Richmond’s defense has weaved a web to stifle opposing teams, holding them to under 42 percent in five of their last six games, while the Explorers connect on only 42.1 percent on the year. Given the spread, as a college basketball handicapper I have to consider all situations and the Spiders are just 2-7 SU on the road this year, nonetheless, if they can win at VCU, they can emerge victorious at LaSalle. SWM Take Richmond covers

CBB – (559) WASHINGTON STATE at (560) OREGON STATE  10:00 ET  PAC12N (side and total)

Today I was on Yahoo Sports radio talking about the Pac-12 and these two teams were part of the discussion. Washington State is 12-3 OVER, while Oregon State is 12-4 UNDER and money is following the Beavers, down from 129.5 to 125.5. Oregon State is 12-0 and 10-1 ATS in Corvallis, yet their up and down offense has made bettors nervous and the Cougars have been dropped from +9.5 to +7.5. Once again I’ll go against the masses and take the other sides. SWM Take Oregon State covers and Over

NHL – (13) DETROIT at (14) COLORADO  9:05 ET     NBCSN

The surging Red Wings try to stay hot against the Colorado Avalanche, having won six of seven. Pucks bettors have drastically altered the NHL odds in this confrontation of what used to be bitter rivals, changing Detroit from +105 underdogs to -120 money line favorites. The Red Wings have been winning without regular netminder Jimmy Howard, out with a lower-body injury; however, Petr Mrazek has been more than capable between the pipes. Detroit’s power play has connected on better than 30 percent of their last 23 chances and when Pavel Datsyuk registers at least one point, the Red Wings are 17-4-4. SWM Take Detroit wins
