Sports Betting Line Moves and Free Picks for March 3rd

If it is Thursday, that means we have line moves in the NBA, NHL and college basketball during the winter months. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks, which are on white hot 23-11 run, to see what we are thinking. See you back here tomorrow.

NBA – (501) PHOENIX at (502) MIAMI  7:35 ET  FSAZ, SUN

Since losing 98-89 to Utah, the Phoenix Suns defense has gone either on sabbatical or spring break, as in their last eight outings they have been torched for 117.5 points a game. Not saying they don’t care because that would be accusing someone of tanking and that does not happen in professional sports. (wink wink) With this in mind, the total has gone up from 210 to 211.5 and while the Heat are not going to shoot 67.5 percent like they just did against Chicago, they will have open looks. Yet, Miami is still defensive team and they are 7-0 UNDER after allowing more than 60 points at the half in last game.

Betting Trend – 60% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under

CBB – (519) MEMPHIS at (520) TEMPLE  7:00 ET  ESPNU

With Memphis scoring 80 PPG on the road and permitting a ghastly 84.1 PPG away from home, the total has jumped from 145 to 148. However, I am going to vehemently disagree where the total is headed. Temple is not a good shooting team at 40.5 percent and averages only 68.6 PPG. The Owls are well known for controlling the tempo at home and see no reason they will not do so again versus Memphis. With the Tigers 13-4 UNDER against weaker shooting teams making 42% or less of their shots the last three seasons, I’ll go against higher total.

Betting Trend – 60% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under

CBB – (555) BRADLEY vs. (556) LOYOLA-CHICAGO  7:00 ET FSMW

In the first game of Arch Madness the total has been all over the place. The opening total of 114.5 zoomed to 117.5 and later fell all the way back to 113 before arriving at latest figure of 117. Both these Missouri Valley teams are terrible offensively and they are 7-1-1 UNDER in last nine matchups, however, the only Over occurred in this tournament two years ago. Nevertheless, when neutral court teams have a total is 129.5 or less in a game involving two teams taking 55 or fewer shots a game and one club (Bradley) is plus/minus three rebounds a game, against a weaker rebounding squad (-3 to -6 reb/game), the UNDER is 42-11.

Betting Trend – 58% backing Under

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under

With the coaching change, Minnesota has won six of nine and has moved up to ninth in the West Conference, six points behind San Jose for last playoff spot. Toronto has no chance for the postseason with the worst record in the NHL at 21-41 SU. With top goalie Jonathan Bernier having faced Washington last night in 3-2 setback, it is now expected rookie Garrett Sparks will get his fifth start of the season and second since James Reimer was traded to San Jose and the Wild have risen from -165 to -185. Having lost 1-0 to Minnesota in December, the Maple Leafs are 3-18 playing with revenge.

Betting Trend – 96% backing Minnesota

Doug’s VPID Take – Minnesota wins

Public Consensus Record – 51% to 79% – 28-25

Public Consensus Record – 80% or Higher – 15-16-1

Line Movement Direction Record – 41-40-1
