CBB – (503) RICHMOND at (504) DAVIDSON 7:00 ET RSN Affil.
Even with the oddsmakers adjustment from previous contest, this A-10 clash was still not low enough for most sports bettors. In Jan. 25th confrontation, these teams never sniffed 171 total as Davidson won 78-70. With the total lowered to 163, the money flow has sent the total down to 159. Both average in the upper 70’s for points and have been slowed recently by opponents working the shot clock. Though this could be overreaction, when Richmond is playing into revenge in past eight contests, the average final score has been 155.4 total points.
Betting Trend – 95% backing Under
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under
CBB – (507) WEST VIRGINIA at (506) TEXAS 7:00 ET ESPN
Has the bloom come off of the yellow rose of Texas after consecutive road losses by the Longhorns? Hoops bettors do not think so as the Longhorns have been beefed up from -1 to -3 versus visiting West Virginia. Texas fell at Oklahoma and at Iowa State in the rugged Big 12 and is back in Austin, going for the sweep of the Mountaineers off earlier 56-49 road upset. The Horns are 5-1 SU and ATS against the ‘Teers of late and it’s been their guards not turning the ball over making the difference. While we can make compelling case for Texas, playing a hunch with West Virginia at this price and the Longhorns are 2-10 ATS at home after one or more consecutive Over’s the last two seasons.
Betting Trend – 62% backing Texas
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean West Virginia
CBB – (515) CREIGHTON at (516) BUTLER 7:00 ET FS1
Two very capable Big East clubs able to play with anybody in the country, but not always able to come out on top. Butler is receiving the benefit of the doubt against Creighton, elevated from -5 to -6.5 in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs normally potent offense was stymied Saturday at home by Xavier, shooting a season-low 33.3 percent in 17-point drubbing. After a trio of losses, the Bluejays are on a spirited 3-0 SU & ATS move. With Creighton posting one earlier victory over Butler by eight at home, this could be too many points and like the Bluejays are 11-1 ATS vs. teams forcing 14 turnovers a game this season.
Betting Trend – 74% backing Creighton
Doug’s VPID Take – Creighton covers
CBB – (549) IOWA STATE at (550) BAYLOR 9:00 ET ESPN2 (side and total)
Depending on the sportsbook, Baylor has risen either two or three points as home favorite to -3 over Iowa State. The Bears being stronger on the interior has led to three consecutive victories over the Cyclones (2-1 ATS). Both clubs are 2-3 SU in last five and look weathered from the relentless conference competition. Wonder about Baylor at 2-9 ATS off a home game. The total has tumbled from 161.5 to 158 despite the Bears winning in Ames 94-89 five weeks ago. If you look the four prior contests, the average total score was 142.5, which is why we agree with the totals movement.
Betting Trend – 68% backing Over and 57% on Baylor
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under and Lean Baylor
Public Consensus Record – 51% to 79% – 10-13
Public Consensus Record – 80% or Higher – 6-7-1
