Baseball is back and baseball bettors are thrilled, because you can only play Home Run Derby and Angry Birds so long before getting bored over four days. Here are today’s top Line Moves and as always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.
MLB – (953) WASHINGTON at (954) MIAMI 7:10 EDT MASN2, FSFL
You hate to think on July 13, the first day back to work from the All-Star that a series is really important, but for Miami, it really is. The Marlins trail first place Washington by nine games in the standings and are five back for the last wild card slot, meaning they have work to do. Miami has four home contests with the Nationals starting tonight, presenting them an opportunity to close the gap. The up and down performances of Josh Johnson (5-5, 4.06 ERA) has sports bettors uneasy, along with outfielder Giancarlo Stanton out at least a month with arthroscopic right knee surgery. The Fish opened at -132 and are below -120 at most sportsbooks. The drop in price might not serve Miami well since they are 18-38 at home when the money line is +125 to -125. 3DW Position – Lean with Miami
MLB – (955) ST. LOUIS at (956) CINCINNATI 7:10 EDT FSMW, FSOH
The heated rivalry between the Redbirds and the Reds resumes in Cincinnati on Friday. Cincinnati is positioned nicely to make a run, as St. Louis is the only winning team (presently) they will face over their next 19 encounters. The pitching matchup of Mat Latos (7-2, 4.13) vs. Adam Wainwright (7-8, 4.56) has those betting on baseball thinking lower scoring, adjusting the total from 8.5 to 8. Latos has a sensational 0.72 ERA in his last three outings. The Cardinals come into this conflict 12-2 UNDER on the road vs. NL teams with an on-base percentage .315 or worse this season. 3DW Position – Play Under
MLB – (959) PITTSBURGH at (960) MILWAUKEE 8:10 EDT RT, FSWI
With rumors swirling of Zack Greinke being traded this month, Milwaukee fans hope their team gets hot to stay in the playoff chase to prevent the ownership from moving the right-hander. The combination of Greinke and the Brewers at Miller Park is about as close to lock as you can get with their 23-1 record. Nevertheless, first place Pittsburgh is a picture of confidence and the Brew Crew has tumbled from -152 to less than -140 at many wagering outlets. The Pirates won a rare series in Milwaukee back in early June, but are still just 5-16 in Wisconsin since 2010. 3DW Position – Milwaukee wins
MLB – (967) L.A. ANGELS at (968) N.Y. YANKEES 7:05 EDT FSW, YES
Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda (8-7, 3.50), has held the Angels scoreless in his last two starts, a period of 15 innings. With Kuroda’s recent mastery over the Halos and the fact C.J. Wilson (9-5) has a 2.49 ERA on the season, this should be a low scoring game right? Nope, not according those reviewing the betting lines, as they have lifted the total from 8.5 to 9. New York might be 37-16 UNDER when the total is 8.5 to 10 this year, yet they are 31-14 OVER at home versus a starting pitcher like Wilson who allows 5.5 or less hits a start. The question to determine is will the Yankees grab a lead, since L.A./2 is 27-14 UNDER against a good bullpen that converts on 75+ percent of their save opportunities. 3DW Position – Play Under
MLB – (979) TEXAS at (980) SEATTLE 10:10 EDT KTXA, RT
Last place Seattle trails in their division by 16.5 games, the most of any cellar-dweller, yet has played first place Texas even, splitting 10 games. Veteran pitcher Kevin Millwood (3-6, 3.69) has baffled the Rangers this season with a 1.06 ERA in three starts with Texas batting .177 against the right-hander. This has breathed life into the Mariners faithful, maneuvering their team from +137 to +127. The M’s are 8-14 hosting Texas the last three years and are 8-25 in July games since last season. With Millwood’s success and the Rangers Derek Holland 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his last seven starts against the Mariners, the total has plunged from 8 to 7.5. 3DW Position – Texas and Over
