NHL Picks Of Day: Homers St. Louis and Winnipeg Rule On Monday

On Monday, we look West, as in the Western Conference, with four teams jockeying for playoff position and matters are hardly set.

Vegas (42-27-6, 42-33 SU) at St. Louis (40-27-8, 40-35 SU)

The Golden Knights and Blues are each in third place in their divisions in the Western Conference. Yet, neither is satisfied with seven games left and each would prefer to reach second place and have a first-round home ice advantage if they could make that happen.

St. Louis has climbed to within two points of second place Nashville with three consecutive wins and the Predators with a pair of defeats. It was a foregone conclusion  Vegas would finish 3rd and it still might be, but with Vegas on a 10-1-1 blowup and San Jose playing likes minnows in losing five in a row, the Blues are within five points and have a date with the Sharks this coming Saturday.

Vegas is playing just like last year on the way to becoming West champions. The Knights suffered what can only be thought of as bad loss Saturday at home, losing in OT to Detroit, but there is no time left to let setbacks linger and you have to forge ahead. Except for a 6-3 drubbing at Calgary having played the night before, the VGK defense has played fabulously in permitting 19 goals in the other 11 contests.

The Blues should be brimming with confidence having beaten Tampa Bay at home 4-3 last Saturday. The St. Louis defense has played outstanding in the second half, but if they can get offensive production anywhere close to what they had in last three outings (16 goals), with their defense, others will continue to sing the blues.
