Monday’s Top Sports Betting Line Moves

For a Monday, quite a bit going on the baseball wagering fronts.  Sports bettors do not think it’s the old days with Roy Halladay and the Phillies, dropping them over 20 cents as home chalk. Arizona swept Houston in the desert and is a building favorite over a contrite Colorado club, while Texas is down almost 25 cents on the money line with Scott Feldman subbing for Roy Oswalt. As always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.

MLB – (951) CHIC. CUBS at (952) PITTSBURGH  7:05 EDT  CSN, RT (side and total)

There is no question pitching matchups are very important when it comes to setting lines for baseball, but sometimes they seem to have too much importance. Take this game; Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija (6-8) has a 4.57 ERA, which is comparable to Pittsburgh’s Erik Bedard (5-10, 4.55). Yet, for some reason, the Pirates have sunk from -150 to -140. Can the Cubs win, certainly. But an examination of the facts finds Pittsburgh with the best home record in baseball at 32-14, while only Houston has a worse road mark than the Cubs in the big leagues, at 14-35. In fact, the Pirates are an astonishing 21-4 at PNC Park since May 25 and oh by the way; Chicago is 10-18 against left-handed starters. The total has also dipped from 8 to 7.5, with the Bucs 30-14 UNDER at home and Samardzija 8-0 UNDER when evening falls. 3DW Position – Pittsburgh wins and Under

MLB – (955) ATLANTA at (956) MIAMI  7:10 EDT  SPSO, FSFL

Atlanta had a chance to close the gap with Washington after taking the first two games of the series, but lost the last two to the Nationals and failed to gain any ground. The Braves still maintain the best road record in the majors at 28-19 (+11.9 units) and are 10-2 at Miami in the last dozen meetings. Oddsmakers had released the Marlins as -145 favorites with Josh Johnson (5-7, 4.35) walking up the mound, however, in this case, baseball bettors are reviewing the situation differently and shifted the Fish to under -125. Johnson is 0-2 with a 7.56 ERA in three July starts and Miami is riding a five-game losing streak (10-24 after four or more consecutive losses). Formally, highly regarded Mike Minor still has bad season numbers (5-6, 5.69), but has improved this month with a 2.19 ERA. Here is the strange part as to why backing the Braves is bad news; they are unthinkable 0-11 on Monday’s this season. 3DW Position – Lean with Miami

MLB – (961) L.A. DODGERS at (962) ST. LOUIS  8:15 EDT  FSPT, FSMW

Both the Dodgers and the Cardinals enter this four-game series feeling more optimistic after weekend sweeps of National League foes. Los Angeles can point to having almost their regular starting lineup that began the season so well for their improved play, while St. Louis is thankful the Cubs were in town. Chad Billingsley (4-9, 4.30) comes off the DL to make an appearance and is in desperation mode to avoid a sixth straight defeat, which would a career-worst. Those betting on baseball give the right-hander and his visiting teammates a chance, moving them from +135 to +120 facing rookie Joe Kelly (1-2, 2.75). Cardinals’ pitchers are working on a 25-inning scoreless stretch and are 17-3 at home after allowing four runs or less in six consecutive encounters. 3DW Position – St. Louis wins

MLB – (967) BALTIMORE at (968) CLEVELAND  7:05 EDT  MASN2, STO

It’s the final matchup of the four-game wraparound series for these two AL clubs and Baltimore might hate to leave Cleveland. After stumbling out of the second half blocks, the Orioles are more stoked than the airlines are about their “added fees” for flying. The Birds have won five in a row, including the last three in Cleveland and have flown from +155 to +140, with the Indians offense lamer than Norm McDonald’s Safe Auto commercials, scoring three runs or less in eight of their last 10 contests. With the Tribe 6-12 (-10.7 Units) as a home favorite of -125 to -175 this season and O’s starter Tommy Hunter (4-4, 5.71) 10-1 if his club is off a win (Team’s record), the visitor looks inviting. 3DW Position – Baltimore wins
