There are exactly a dozen games on the MLB docket today and very little early movement by baseball bettors. We have focused in on the three main games in which the numbers have shown the most movement. As always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.
MLB – (911) PHILADELPHIA at (912) L.A. DODGERS 10:10 EDT CSN, FSPT (side and total)
Both the Phillies and Dodgers continue to have players coming off the DL, yet it’s the visitor that those betting on baseball like more in the opener of this series. Philadelphia is firmly entrenched in last place in the NL East, but has gone from a +107 underdog to a -110 money line road favorite. A part of the reason is though Joe Blanton ((7-8, 4.98 ERA) is struggling overall; he’s 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA in four outings at spacious Dodger Stadium. Nathan Eovaldi (1-5, 4.21) has pitched well at times for L.A. and too often been a victim of little run support. The Dodgers lack of offense is taking a toll and they are 5-14 after batting .225 or worse over a 15-game span. Given the park and the Dodgers bumbling offense, the total has crumbled from 8 to 7.5. Eovaldi and teammates are 10-1 UNDER in evening contests. 3DW Position – Dodgers win and Under
MLB – (915) TORONTO at (916) N.Y. YANKEES 7:05 EDT RSN, YES
A quick look at the numbers finds these two American League clubs lead the majors in home runs as they prepare for their three-game set. The Bronx Bombers have 142 long shots and Toronto is second with 130. Tonight’s starters Phil Hughes (9-7, 4.33) and Henderson Alvarez (5-7, 4.36) are certainly capable of throwing excellent games; nonetheless, both can be taken deep. Hughes has surrendered 19 home runs and Alvarez 17, leaving baseball bettors to take the oddsmakers original total of 10 to 10.5. When the total is 10 or 10.5 at Yankee Stadium, New York is 25-10 UNDER. However, with the Yanks around a -170 favorite, the average score of Hughes pitched home game when his team is favored -175 to -250, is 11.2 runs a game. 3DW Position – Play Under
MLB – (919) CLEVELAND at (920) TAMPA BAY 7:10 EDT STO, SUN
After being a valuable commodity early, Tampa Bay starter Alex Cobb (4-5, 4.89) has going the wrong direction on a one-way street. Cobb is 2-5 in his last seven starts, with an ERA just under six. No wonder the Rays have fallen from -145 to -120, in spite of Tampa Bay having won seven of past nine meetings with Cleveland at home. Zack McAllister (3-1, 3.40) will throw for the Indians and his club is 24-18 off a defeat. The Tribe has dropped 11 of their past 16 road tilts, but the Rays are 4-11 after a loss by four or more runs. 3DW Position – Lean with Cleveland
