It Should Run-Olicious in Denver with Cubs vs. Rockies

Colorado lost a series at Wrigley Field last week on their just concluded road trip and will be trying to turn the tables on Chicago at a higher elevation starting tonight. Cubs (37-27, -3.27 units) at Colorado (33-31, +1.7 units)

After a dismal road trip, the Chicago Cubs came home and won a makeup game over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and took series versus Colorado and St. Louis to close the homestand at 6-1. Manager Joe Madden’s team now heads west for two rugged series against the Rockies and the L.A. Dodgers.

With their loss at New York on Sunday, Colorado finished their road trip at 2-4 and they will be excited to be back home where they are 18-12 and up +4.4 units for those backing them for MLB picks. The Rockies have won eight in a row at home and 12 of 14 at Coors Field.

After a good start, Chicago is only 13-16 (-3.5 units) on the road and has dropped five of their last six in the traveling grays.

The MLB odds have Colorado as a -140 home favorites with a total of 11 and curious to note, Chicago is 18-10 OVER away and the Rocks are 18-12 OVER in their building.

The Pitching Story

The Cubs are expected to give the ball to Yu Darvish (2-3, 4.88 ERA). Though he’s lowered his ERA just over a run since April 20, Darvish has the Cubs coaching staff reaching for the Tums before the first pitch. Though his batting average allowed is up from .220 to current .234 rate, that is not a dramatic difference. What is dramatic is Darvish has gone from a 3-to-1 strikeout pitcher to less than 2/1 (78 K’s vs. 44W’s) His inability to spot the fastball and his lack of confidence in it, has him relying on curves and sliders.
