Is Edmonton Good Enough to Make the Stanley Cup Finals?

After missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for 10 straight years, Edmonton has returned. And they are not only back, they are playing like they will be around a long time with a young, exciting team.

They have already knocked off last year’s finalist San Jose and are going toe to toe with Anaheim. Can the Oilers shock the world and make it all the way to The Finals?

Edmonton Has the Components, But Will the Lack of Experience Catch Up to Them? The center piece of the franchise is Conner McDavid, who at 20 already is to be the sports next true superstar. McDavid has brought a fearless to this team and thus far in the playoffs, Edmonton might have lost, nevertheless, they have played all 60 minutes or more if needed.

It turns out Todd McLellan was the perfect head coach for this youthful squad. His vast experience helped this group learn on the run and he has given them enough rope to use their talents, but reined them in when they have gotten out of control.

All the offense in the world is only half the game as anyone making NHL picks realizes. Cam Talbot came over in trade with the New York Rangers and he’s been a real fit and provided outstanding goal-tending when the offense has a tough night. With the addition of several fine blue-liners, the defense is now in place night and night out for Edmonton.

The NHL odds at 5Dimes currently has the Oilers as the third choice to win the Stanley Cup. They will have to still get by the Ducks in this round. If so, the joy ride could well end against Nashville in the West Finals, however, the future could hardly be brighter for Edmonton.
