Nearly half the baseball action is on Wednesday afternoon, with seven matchups. Quickly reviewing most of the games, the oddsmakers and sports bettors ended up being fairly close with only the Yankees and Mariners seeing significant movement, with plenty of time for that to change. Here are four night contests with more volatile numbers and as always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.
MLB – (961) CINCINNATI at (962) HOUSTON 8:05 EDT FSOH, FSH (side and total)
Either Cincinnati or Houston is being bet like they are being chased. The Reds have won six straight, while the Astros are on an eight-game losing streak. Linemakers released Cincy at -165 on the overnight money line and they have since slid to under -145. Homer Bailey (9-6, 3.74 ERA) is 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA in his last four starts and has a miniscule 1.60 ERA versus Houston in five career outings. The ‘Stros Bud Norris (5-8, 5.33) has lost seven consecutive decisions and has a 7.23 ERA in four trips against Dusty Baker’s club. The total has been lowered from 8 to 7.5 and Bailey and friends are 14-4 OVER as a favorite of -125 to -175 since last season. 3DW Position – Cincinnati wins and Over
MLB – (963) L.A. DODGERS at (964) ST. LOUIS 8:15 EDT ESPN
The Cardinals jumped on Clayton Kershaw last night and earned their first victory of the season over the Dodgers and baseball bettors think the hit parade can continue. St. Louis plated eight times on Tuesday and will face the pitches of Aaron Harang (7-5, 3.46), whom they are 4-0 against in five starts. This has helped elevate the total from 8.5 to 9; with the Redbirds 40-23 OVER vs. a NL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 or better since last year. Los Angeles is 21-9 UNDER having won two of their last three games, however Cards starter Kyle Lohse (10-2, 2.71) has a 5.54 ERA against the visiting team. 3DW Position – Play Under
MLB – (973) TAMPA BAY at (974) BALTIMORE 7:05 EDT SUN, MASN
Baltimore bats have gone Coors Light cold, with a total of two runs and 11 hits in the last two games. They don’t figure to heat up much against the Rays David Price (13-4, 2.64), who is 5-0 in his past six starts, with opponents batting a chilling .189. Price is in a good groove and knows it, “My fastball’s gotten better…….. The curveball’s better and my cutter is more consistent right now. I throw my changeup whenever I need to…” In spite of these proclamations, those betting on baseball are not finding the price is right and have lowered Tampa Bay from -145 to around -130. The Rays left-hander is 17-5 on the road with a money line of -100 to -150. 3DW Position – Tampa Bay wins
MLB – (979) BOSTON at (980) TEXAS 8:05 EDT NESN, FSH
Neither Josh Beckett (5-8, 4.53) nor Derek Holland (6-5, 4.84) have been effective of late, struggling with command. This played a part in the opening total being listed at 10, but it has since been dropped to 9.5. With these figures, Boston is 37-22 OVER when the total is 8.5 to 10 in 2012 and Holland is 18-6 OVER at home when the total is in the 8.5 to 10 range. 3DW Position – Play Over
