Hump Day Line Moves for Baseball Bettors

With Milwaukee making a pitching change and Ryan Braun listed as doubtful, St. Louis has grown to a decided favorite on the road in afternoon action. Even with Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers, L.A’s lack of hitting has them tumbling over 10 cents on the money line. Here are four other significant line moves and as always, review the tasty trend nuggets at the bottom of the page.

MLB – (905) PITTSBURGH at (906) COLORADO  3:10 EDT  RT

Jeremy GuthrieThe pitching poor Colorado Rockies have few answers to stop the opposition other than outscore them. Jeremy Guthrie (3-9, 6.14 ERA) has been completely ineffective at Coors Field with a 9.23 ERA and opponents hitting a whopping .365 against him. With Pittsburgh ace James McDonald (9-3, 2.59) expected to bounce back from one of worst efforts of the season, the Pirates have zoomed from -106 to -120. The Bucs are 18-4 as a favorite of -110 or higher this season. 3DW Position – Pittsburgh wins

MLB – (909) N.Y. METS at (910) WASHINGTON  7:05 EDT  ESPN

Washington’s Jordan Zimmerman (6-6, 2.48) has never won four games in a row, but he is receiving lots of support to do so from those betting on baseball. Zimmerman would be well above .500 with some run support and has taken matters into his own hands by being even more effective, with a dwindling 0.95 ERA in his last three starts. Line makers sent the Nationals out at -150 and at last look they are -165 or higher. Washington engineered a 5-4 extra inning win last night over the Mets and are 15-2 off a one run win over a division rival since last year. 3DW Position – Washington wins

MLB – (915) MIAMI at (916) CHIC. CUBS 8:05 EDT  FSFL, WGN

Miami is wishing they had pull in the league office to switch to the NL Central and face the Cubs more often. The Marlins are 4-0 this season against Chicago and have won six straight over the North Siders. Josh Johnson (5-6, 4.28) has been entrusted with extending Miami dominance over Chicago and is yearning for the good old days, like last month. Thus far in July, Johnson has posted an 8.71 ERA in his two starts, after closing out June with a 1.87 ERA. With Johnson struggles, Miami has fallen from -130 to -118. Jeff Samardzija (6-8, 4.71) has been as inconsistent as his mound opponent and he will try and give the Cubs their fifth win in six tries versus the Marlins who are 15-6 in road games after scoring eight runs or more the last three seasons. 3DW Position – Lean with Chicago

MLB – (923) CLEVELAND at (924) TAMPA BAY  7:10 EDT  STO, SUN

After starting 4-0, the Rays Jeremy Hellickson (4-6, 3.48) has lost six in a row. Last year’s AL rookie of the year has not been as precise in spotting his pitches and has already been tagged for 17 home runs after permitting 21 in 2011. Hellickson’s problems have led baseball backers to switch Tampa Bay from a -117 favorite to a -101 underdog. This could work for Cleveland who is 60-36 when the money line is -100 to -150 the past two years. However, Justin Masterson (6-8, 4.14) can provide as many surprises as hotel service fees off the listed room rate, having been hammered for six or more runs in four of his 19 starts. Tampa Bay is 8-3 at The Trop the last three years against the Indians and Masterson has a 8.06 ERA in eight starts against the Rays. 3DW Position – Tampa Bay wins
