With a very light slate in the NBA, for line moves, we will add a hockey game with the money line heading one direction, along with a pair of basketball contests. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (18-10 of late), to see what we are thinking. See you back here tomorrow.
NBA – (705) SACRAMENTO at (706) L.A. LAKERS 10:35 ET NBA-TV
Here is something you have not seen much of in the last few years, those betting basketball willing to make the Los Angeles Lakers a larger favorite. L.A. opened as a Pick versus Sacramento and has risen to -2. The Lakers have been more competitive with a recent 8-2 ATS mark (4-6 SU), thanks in part to lineup change by coach Luke Walton and its noteworthy the gold and purple is on 3-0 SU and ATS move as favorites. However, don’t undersell the Kings who have won and covered three in a row and are nice 4-1 SU and ATS spin themselves. Going against the grain, preferring Sac-Town who is 8-2 SU against the Lakers of late.
Betting Trend – 57% backing Los Angeles
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Sacramento
CBB – (713) RUTGERS at (714) PURDUE 7:05 ET BTN
Purdue is tied for second place in the Big Ten and is back home off to clutch road wins over Maryland in-state rival Indiana. Though Michigan State is down this year, they still have to be taken seriously and basketball bettors are thinking this is low energy spot for the Boilermakers in facing Rutgers and dumped them two digits to -17.5. The Scarlet Knights might reside in last place in the conference, yet is a respectable 7-5 ATS on the road this campaign. Understand the argument, but Purdue has taken this role seriously and is 9-2 ATS as double digit favorites, winning by 21.6 PPG.
Betting Trend – 54% backing Purdue
Doug’s VPID Take – Purdue covers
CBB – (727) BOWLING GREEN at (728) WEST. MICHIGAN 7:00 ET W-ESPN
Last week at my website, wrote an article about oddsmakers have not found an answer on totals action in the MAC, where the OVER is 29-12 in league play. Word on the street was the action increased quite a bit over the weekend on these matchups. College basketball bettors, at least in this contest, are of the opinion the linemakers went too high in setting a 155.5 total and dropped it dramatically to 151.5. Strangely enough, my numbers fall in between the start and current numbers and given how the season has played out in the MAC, I’ll back a higher score with Bowling Green 7-1 OVER after a combined score of 155 points or more and Western Michigan 7-0 OVER at home this season.
Betting Trend – 95% backing Under
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over

NHL – (61) ANAHEIM at (62) MINNESOTA 8:05 ET FSPT, FSNO+
This is the last stop of a six-game road trip for Anaheim and it has not been pretty with a 1-4 SU record. Despite what would appear a situation where the Ducks are anxious to fly home, hockey bettors have give them enough support to lower them from +150 to +140, depending on the sportsbook. Anaheim is only 12-19 SU on the road and faces a Minnesota squad that is averaging 3.8 goals game in winning seven of last nine and is 19-7 at the Ecel Energy Center. Having lost 5-3 in the Twin Cities back on Jan. 21st, the Ducks are 5-17 away with revenge having lost by two goals or more the last three seasons. Expect this money line to go back up on the Wild.
Betting Trend – 85% backing Minnesota
