Free Picks and Predictions on Line Moves for Oct. 9

It was not by much but we had another winning weekend on free picks! Let’s get started with line moves for Tuesday and look at those in college football. Take a minute to review all the betting trends, our free picks and predictions (373-290-9 long term, 182-139-7 of late) to see what we are thinking today. See you back here Thursday.

The Sun Belt is featured tonight and two of the teams most figured would reach the first FBS title game will butt heads. App. State is in need a victory to keep pace with Troy and Georgia Southern in the East Division and they have zoomed from -7.5 to -11-point favorites. Arkansas State also needs this badly because they are 0-1 in the West and might find the road tough to get back with a defeat. I have no problem with anyone taking the home team, but I’ll wait for 10-points and take the better team on both sides of the ball in the Mountaineers.

Betting Trend – 76% backing Appalachian State

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Appalachian State

NHL – (11) TORONTO at (12) DALLAS 8:35 ET   TSN4, FSSW

For line moves in the NHL, I don’t have many that are not money lines unless we get a total shifting quite a bit. That is what precisely happen here as the total climbed from 6 to 6.5. Though the Dallas defense has been brilliant in permitting just one goal, that has not been true of Toronto’s which has allowed 11 goals the last two contests, while scoring 10. The Maple Leafs might be 11-3 OVER after conceding five or more goals, but the Stars are 16-6 UNDER at home and I’ll lean that direction.

Betting Trend – 91% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under

CFB – (127) BALL STATE at (128) CENTRAL MICH.  3:00 ET  ESPN3

By all appearances, neither of these MAC teams will be a factor in their conference and likely will miss going bowling, yet there was enough interest by football bettors to push Central Michigan from a Pick to -2 over Ball State. Right now, not certain I could back the Chippewas who are tied for the most turnovers in the country (16).

Betting Trend – 95% backing Central Michigan

Doug’s VPID Take -Coming Friday

CFB – (157) ARMY at (158) SAN JOSE STATE  3:30 ET  ESPNU

San Jose State is 0-5 (2-3 ATS) but is getting attention from enough backers to see the spread slide from +17 to +14.5 against Army. The Spartans biggest weakness is pass defense (128th) not the run, at least that’s what we think based on the numbers. The Black Knights will run the option, so we will find out how the Spartans will hold up over four quarters. Army is 4-15 ATS as a road favorite.

Betting Trend – 93% backing Army

Doug’s VPID Take – Coming Friday

CFB – (173) TEMPLE at (174) NAVY  3:30 ET  CBBSN

It is starting to seem Navy is not getting the same players they did a few years ago. After losing by 28 at the Air Force, the Midshipmen have to regroup at home, but they are growing underdog, up two points to +6.5 versus Temple. The Owls are soaring after a slow start on a 4-0 ATS run (3-1 SU) and they are 8-1 ATS after four or more wins against the spread.

Betting Trend – 90% backing Temple

Doug’s VPID Take – Coming Friday

CFB – (185) TENNESSEE at (186) AUBURN  12:00 ET  SECN

With two losses and still having games at Georgia and at Alabama, Auburn is heading towards a lower than expected bowl berth. Even against a crummy Tennessee squad, the Tigers are not drawing support and have been lowered from -18 to -15.5 at Jordan-Hare. Still, the Vols are 0-7 ATS having lost two out of their last three games.

Betting Trend – 61% backing Tennessee

Doug’s VPID Take – Coming Friday

CFB – (187) BAYLOR at (188) TEXAS  3:30 ET  ESPN

There is a feeling out in wagering land that Texas might be touch flat after the emotional Oklahoma victory and they have been fallen from -17 to -14.5 against Baylor. The Bears are improved but they recently lost by 33 to the Sooners. Plus, the Longhorns are almost always ready for next outing after Oklahoma and are 11-2 ATS the next time out.

Betting Trend – 78% backing Texas

Doug’s VPID Take – Coming Friday

Public Consensus Record (2018) – 51% to 79% – 201-206-11 ATS

Public Consensus Record (2018) – 80% or Higher – 86-77-2 ATS

Line Movement Direction Record (2018) – 299-300-13 ATS
