CBB – (669) VIRGINIA TECH vs. (670) DUKE  9:39 ET  CBS

This is the second meeting between these teams this one is just a “wee” bit more important. The total has been lowered from 145 to 143 and that was the closing number in the previous matchup won by Virginia Tech 77-72 in Blacksburg with some dude named Zion not playing for Duke. The Hokies have been playing great defense and held opposing teams to 60.2 PPG while scoring 70.2 themselves. The Blue Devils past five outings find them at 147.7 total points. Because of familiarity, the lower score appears correct and the Dukies are 24-8 UNDER as favorites.

Betting Trend – 59% backing Under

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under

CBB – (673) AUBURN vs. (674) NORTH CAROLINA  7:29 ET  TBS

If he hasn’t already, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl will be getting a call from the NCAA (again) about his comment on ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt’s show about ” ……taking the Over, with my team and Roy’s.” Not sure if bettors heeded Pearl’s advice but the total is up a ginormous five points to 165. If both teams are draining 3’s, the possibility of an Over exists, but just not sure it happens. North Carolina’s size will take away many second-chance points for the Tigers and the Tar Heels have had all week to prepare. At 160, that would a harder pick, but not at 165, take the UNDER.

Betting Trend – 65% backing Over

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under

NBA – (527) CHARLOTTE at (528) L.A. LAKERS  10:35 ET  FSCR, TWSN

Don’t look now, but here come the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets have won a season-high four straight games (4-0 ATS) and they are tied with Orlando in the loss column at 39, which is one behind Brooklyn and Miami who are 38 and they currently hold down the last two spots in the East playoff chase. NBA bettors have noticed and lifted the Hornets from a Pick to -2.5 against LeBron and the Lakers. No doubt it is bit scary backing Charlotte on the road as a favorite with their 11-24 SU record, yet, the way Kemba Walker is playing, not sure on L.A. who can guard him. A nod to the Hornets with the Lakers 8-21 ATS after allowing 105 points or more in five straight games this season.

Betting Trend – 61% backing Charlotte

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Charlotte

MLB –   (953) ST. LOUIS at (954) MILWAUKEE  8:10 ET  FSMW, FSWI

Milwaukee beat St. Louis yesterday thanks to four home runs and Lorenzo Cain bringing a game-tying home run back with two outs in the 9th. The Brewers opened as a -125 favorite but have been bet down to a Pick (-105). The starting pitching matchup is close to even with Jack Flaherty vs. Freddy Peralta. One edge Milwaukee had yesterday that is gone is Josh Hader went two innings in relief and at best would pitch to one batter tonight. Look for the Redbirds to rebound and improve to 18-5 off a one-run loss.

Betting Trend – 71% backing St. Louis

Doug’s VPID Take – St. Louis wins

CBB – Saturday – (683) TEXAS TECH vs. (684) GONZAGA  6:09 ET  TBS

The first Elite 8 game of the weekend features two tremendous defensive squads. Teams in the tournament are barely making a third of shot attempts against Texas Tech (35.5%) and Gonzaga is not a whole lot worse at 37%. This has helped drop the total from 139 to 137. The Bulldogs have just faced two quality defensive teams and preparing for the Red Raiders on short notice is not easy. Because the Zags are such a good rebounding team, I’ll say they get to 70 points and hold Texas Tech to 62, making this UNDER action.

Betting Trend – 58% backing Under

Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under
