MLB – (955) SAN DIEGO at (956) ATLANTA 7:35 ET FSSD, FSSE
With a two-game series sweep of the Mets, Atlanta is back in first place in the NL East. Having won seven straight over San Diego at home, the Braves are growing favorites from -135 to -146 or higher. However, don’t sell the Padres short, as they have won five straight series and are 11-4 in that span. Anibal Sanchez (2-0, 2.37 ERA) is pitching far better than he has in years for Atlanta, but the Friars Tyson Ross (5-3, 3.43) has helped San Diego win 10 of his 13 starts. Let’s take a flyer on the Padres.
Betting Trend – 86% backing Atlanta
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean San Diego
MLB – (967) BOSTON at (968) SEATTLE 10:10 ET NESN, RTNW
AL division leaders open up a big four-game series in Coffee Town. This contest has a bit of an old-school feel to it with two noted pitchers past their prime in David Price (7-4, 4.00) and Felix Hernandez (6-5, 5.70). Boston was sent out as a -135 road favorite and has come back 10 cents lower to -125. With Price more consistent and the Red Sox have a deeper bullpen, Boston gets the call being 39-15 against right-handed starters and 12-2 in road games after allowing two runs or less this season.
Betting Trend – 70% backing Boston
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Boston
CFL – (371) EDMONTON at (372) WINNIPEG 8:30 ET ESPN2 (side and total)
The CFL kicks off tonight and Edmonton has climbed from a -6 to -7.5 point favorite. Along with that, the total has crumbled from 53 to 49.5. Why all the movement, a true rookie quarterback, Chris Streveler, is starting for injured starter Matt Nichols, who suffered a knee injury last week. That’s not to say Winnipeg cannot win and cover, but that is a tall task even if the Eskimos are 4-12 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points.
Betting Trend – 73% backing Edmonton, 65% on Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Leans Edmonton and Under
CFL – Friday – (373) TORONTO at (374) SASKATCHEWAN 9:00 ET ESPN2 (side and total)
Toronto is the defending Grey Cup champions and opens their defense of the title on the road. The Argonauts have been bumped up two points from a Pick to -2 at Saskatchewan and the total has slid from 52.5 to 50. The Argos still have QB Ricky Ray and pass catcher S.J. Green. But the Roughriders have a potentially potent offense and a strong cast of pass rushers to wreak havoc. With Saskatchewan 20-4 ATS as a home underdog of three points or less, let’s take the home dog and lean UNDER.
Betting Trend – 60% backing Toronto, 62% on Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Saskatchewan, lean Under
