MLB – (903) WASHINGTON at (904) PHILADELPHIA 6:05 ET MLBN + Locals (side and total)
Washington begins the second half on a major roll of 28-11 and is up from -120 to -142 at Philadelphia. How the Nationals are playing in one element the other is having Stephen Strasburg (10-4, 3.64 ERA) taking on Nick Pivetta (4-3, 5.84). The Nats and Strasburg are 20-5 collectively against Philly, while Pivetta is 0-6 in eight starts versus Washington. The total is up from 9 to 9.5 and I’ll trust Pivetta will not do the job and improve on 11-3 OVER when the total is 9 to 9.5.
Betting Trend – 82% backing Washington and 55% on Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Washington wins and Over
MLB – (919) MINNESOTA at (920) CLEVELAND 7:10 ET FSNO, STO
For as well as Minnesota has played this season since they have leveled off, Cleveland’s been hotter than a car door handle in the July sun in Phoenix. The Indians have moved to within 5.5 games of the Twins in the AL Central and have been bumped up 20 cents to -140 tonight. At first, could not come up with a good reason to support this until finding Kyle Gibson is 3-9 lifetime against the Tribe. I sense value on Minny here with a 28-18 road record this season. Plus, the Indians are 2-10 after batting .315 or better over a 5-game span.
Betting Trend – 53% backing Minnesota
Doug’s VPID Take – Minnesota wins

MLB – (921) HOUSTON at (922) TEXAS 8:15 ET ATTSW, FSSW
Texas shutout Houston 5-0 on Thursday night and goes after another victory this evening against the Astros. The total on this tilt opened at 10.5 and has come back to 10. I’m going to back this up with Houston’s Gerrit Cole 25-11 UNDER when the total is 8.5 to 10 and the Rangers are a sensational 22-5 UNDER after two or more wins this season.
Betting Trend – 65% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Under
CFL – Saturday – (687) CALGARY at (688) HAMILTON 7:00 ET TSN
The main storyline coming into this Week 5 clash is Calgary’s 15-game winning streak over Hamilton (10-5 ATS). However, the betting action is on the total, up three points to 55.5. The Ti-Cats have a long history of Under’s mostly because of how bad they were. But Hamilton is coming around and actually leads the league in scoring at 39.2 PPG, Just below them is Calgary at 33.7 PPG and the Stampeders are 20-4 OVER in road games after a win by 24 or more points. The Ti-Cats gave a non-effort in loss to Montreal last week and is 7-0 OVER after allowing 8.1 or more yards a play in their previous game.
Betting Trend – 79% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over
MLB – L.A. DODGERS (+130) at BOSTON (-150) (Series Betting)
Given the anticipated pitching matchups, Boston is likely to be favored in each contest. Neither team is great in home/road scenarios, but I’ll say the Dodgers have a little more juice and are after at least a bit of payback from the World Series and take the series.
Betting Trend – 54% backing Boston
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Dodgers
MLB – ATLANTA (Even) at SAN DIEGO (-120) (Series Betting)
As we went to post, we did not know all the starting pitchers for San Diego this weekend. No matter, like that Atlanta will have Keuchel, Teheran and Soroka, along with a better offense and bullpen and will grab the Braves at the edge of the Lamp Light District.
Betting Trend – 51% backing Atlanta
Doug’s VPID Take – Atlanta wins
