The Louisville Cardinals continue their quest for this season’s Big East title this upcoming Saturday afternoon when they tangle with the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome. The game is slated for a noon start and it will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Louisville was expected to be one of the top teams in the Big East this season, but a perfect 9-0 straight up start has to have surprised even the most die-hard of fans. However, anyone who has consistently bet on the Cardinals this season cannot be all that happy with their 4-5 record against the spread that includes a 2-2 record ATS in conference play.

Syracuse is coming off a 35-24 loss to Cincinnati last Saturday as a five-point road underdog to fall to 4-5 SU and 3-5-1 ATS on the year. It is 3-2 SU at home this season and 2-2-1 ATS with the total going “over” in its last three games.

Louisville vs. Syracuse Betting Storylines

The big story in Louisville this season has been the play of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is starting to get a groundswell of support as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate the higher his team climbs in the BCS rankings. He has already thrown for 2,434 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 70.4 percent of his passes.

DeVante Parker and Damian Copeland have been his two biggest targets in the passing game with a combined 55 receptions for 923 yards while Senorise Perry and Jeremy Wright have anchored the running game with a combined 1,354 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. With a cast of skill players such as these, it is easy to see why Louisville is averaging 34 points a game. The one possible chink in the armor is a defense that has given up 25 points or more in four of the team’s last seven games.

college footballSyracuse has a passing game that is ranked 20th in the nation in yards per game with Ryan Nassib at the helm. He has thrown for 2,773 yards this season, but all the production through the air has not always translated to points on the scoreboard. Through their first nine games, the Orange are averaging 26.4 points a game, which is ranked 74th in the country.

Defense has also been a sore spot for this team at times; giving up an average of 26.1 points a game. The Orange have done well this season against some of the softer completion they have faced, but they were blown out against Northwestern and USC earlier in the season and outscored 58-39 in losses to Rutgers and Cincinnati.

Louisville vs. Syracuse Betting Odds and Trends by 5Dimes

Pointspread: Louisville -2.5

Total Line: OFF

The Cardinals are 14-4 ATS in their last 18 road games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against the Big East. The total has gone over in five of their last six conference games.

The Orange are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 games and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games against the conference. The total has gone over in five of their last seven games at home.

Head-to-head, the underdog in this series is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has stayed under in six of those games. Louisville is 3-0 SU in the last three meetings, but Syracuse is 5-2 ATS in the last seven games between the two.

College Football Pick: Louisville vs. Syracuse Betting Predictions

This is the type of matchup to would tend to derail the Cardinals with a bad loss. The disparity in talent between the two teams is great and the stakes are high for the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Especially with a showdown against No.23 Rutgers, which should be for the Big East title, still on the horizon. But I am going to side with the home underdog here. Syracuse is still trying very hard to get bowl eligible and this would be a big win. They have played great at home this year and have been even more competitive than their record suggests. The Dome will be rocking and I think that we will see an outright upset in this one.

Take # 122 Syracuse (+2.5) over Louisville (-2.5) (Noon, Saturday, Nov. 12)
