These days, Betonline.com is a great sportsbook for getting early numbers if you want fresh betting odds and is a go to source if you have strong thoughts to make sports picks right from the get go.

I will often use them for a variety of reasons and definitely did for this article. This next week’s slate of  games is lacking in quality, yet we still find college football odds, which upon initial viewing causes a reaction of wonderment if the line is really accurate or is there some hidden value we can pounce on quickly as football bettors. Here are a half dozen furrowed brow games for next weekend that made this football handicapper think twice.

Rutgers -13 point Home Favorite over Kansas

If the Big Ten could excommunicate Rutgers from the conference, they would with the latest scandal surrounding this university, making this league look like the SEC. (Stop, it’s a joke) The Scarlet Knights will be without their head coach Kyle Flood and after an ugly home loss to below average Washington State team and showing zero offense against Penn State, hard to image Rutgers would favored by 13 points against anybody. But then you have the great equalizer, Kansas, which make it more tolerable to think the Scarlet Knights could cover the freight. However, my cash will not be used for backing Rutgers for college football picks at this price.

Baylor -33 point Home Favorite versus Rice

Baylor bearsThe Bears have given up 26 points a game to SMU and Lamar and they are this large a favorite? Yes, we understand Baylor can score big numbers in a hurry, but their defense is cause for concern, with Rice averaging 33 PPG in a pair of games against FBS opponents.  The first impression of these college football odds is they seem about three to four points heavy.

Penn State  -12 point Home Favorite versus San Diego State

While it is true the Penn State passing offense is still a mess,  the offensive line showed some signs of life in helping the Nittany Lions rush for 300 yards against Rutgers this last Saturday.  If Penn State is was a nine-point favorite against the Scarlet Knights, would it not be reasonable to assume they should be larger favorites against a San Diego State team that just lost at home to South Alabama 34-27 as 17.5 point favorite and surrendered 514 yards of offense? Toss this will be a 9:00 am start Pacific time on Saturday and the Aztecs could be down 14-0 before they wipe the sleep out of their eyes.
