The Big East is a lot like the front space of your local grocery store, every time you walk in, something different has been moved around to try and grab your attention before you start the business of shopping for what you need. Next season, the Big East will have a major overhaul, but for now, Temple returns to the fold, with Pittsburgh and Syracuse completing their last season in this conference that will struggle for relevance in the years ahead.

Cincinnati +200  (odds to win the conference) Projected win total Un7.5

The Bearcats only have four returning starters back on offense and will no longer be able to rely on the talents of Isaiah Pead to carry the offense. If Cincinnati is to be a true contender in the Big East, QB Munchie Legaux will have to use his legs and be a better thrower than he’s shown in the past. The defense can hold its own, but the Bearcats no longer have the same talent level from the Mark Dantonio and Brian Kelly recruiting years. The only way Cincy surpasses its win total is winning all seven home games and pick off a road winner, which is unlikely. 3DW Position – Play Under

Louisville +200 – Un9.5

Based on oddmakers projections, you would believe conference officials would like to see Louisville over-achieve slightly to get to 10 wins and be the Big East champions to at least save face from the media wolves that will look to prey on this league. The Cardinals return eight defensive starters that were ranked 10th nationally against the run and the rookie of the year in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Louisville should be favored in every home game and there is not a road encounter they cannot win, though are unlikely to. If the Cards can sweep their first three games at home (Kentucky, Missouri State and North Carolina), this might propel them to a 10-win season. 3DW Position – Play Under

South Florida +350 – Ov7.5

The Bulls were supposed to be conference contenders last season, but managed only one league victory. Coach Skip Holtz will try and convince his 15 returning starters and 45 total lettermen that they need to close-out games this year, after suffering five defeats by six or less points a year ago. Senior signal caller BJ Daniels is primed for a big season and has the best collection of receivers since he was a freshman. South Florida has the talent to start 5-1, but will have three challenging road assignments in the second half. If they start as expected, eight wins is possible. 3DW Position – Play Over

Pittsburgh +500 – Ov7

Technically, this will be Pittsburgh’s fourth head coach in three years with Paul Chryst taking the reins. With all the constant shuffling, Chryst has decided to keep it simple this season on both sides of the ball and hope the talent plays to or over its expected level. The Panthers win eight of more games if QB Tino Sunseri and RB Ray Graham can be major factors. However, if Sunseri struggles again and Graham lacks the old explosiveness forcing the offense to be a non-factor, the six road encounters will help make Pitt a .500 team. 3DW Position – Push

Rutgers +600 – Ov7.5

There are several reasons to think Rutgers can be a dark horse in the Big East, with arguably the best returning defense and four players on that side of the ball that could be All-Conference. However, a new coach, a third consecutive new offense coordinator (though the scheme will be largely the same as last year) and a rebuilt offensive line are a cause for consternation. The Scarlet Knights have just three league home games and trips to USF, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh will test their mettle. If the offense can come together quickly, eight wins is a possibility, but betting on it is another matter. 3DW Position – Play Under

Temple +1500 – Un4.5

Its funny how life works, when Temple could barely muster a win or two, a more powerful Big East kicked them to the curb early this century. The Owls went to the MAC and though fortunes improved, they never won a title, yet were taken back with open arms by a desperate Big East Conference. For longer time followers of the league, Temple might not look a whole lot different than when they left with just nine starters back. The key to beating the oddsmakers number is probably the first two contests. If they sweep Villanova and Maryland at home, they should find three won victories. A split or dropping those two, make it a dicey situation to overcome. 3DW Position – Play Under

Syracuse +1500 – Un5.5

The good news is Syracuse has seven defense starters returning. Unfortunately, so is the bad news, as they “helped” the Orangemen finish last in total defense and points allowed in the conference last season. Coach Doug Marone’s recruiting efforts are not producing, with T Justin Pugh believed to be the one real Big East first team candidate on the entire squad. The offense is not good enough to carry a mediocre defense and the only real shot the Cuse has at six or more wins is winning four of the first five contests (USC will be a blowout loss). 3DW Position – Play Under

Connecticut +2500 – Un.5.5

Head coach Paul Pasqualoni is turning to JC transfers to juice up last season’s worst offense. Presently, we do not know who the signal caller with be in the blue and white, but assuredly, whoever it is, they will be handing the ball to RB Lyle McCombs after his big freshman campaign. Connecticut can field a good defense squad, but many injuries will lead to disaster. In looking at every best case scenario, it is still almost impossible to find more than five wins.  3DW Position – Play Under
