New Orleans Bowl

Appalachian State (7-6 Over) vs. Middle Tennessee (6-6 Split)

Saturday,  9:00 p.m. ET, (ESPN)

Free NCAAF Pick: Over

This season the oddsmakers had a good read on both teams with Appalachian State one game over .500 to the Over side and Middle Tennessee dead even.

The sportsbooks college football odds on this game was 50.5 for the total.

The average score of a Middle Tennessee game this season was 54.5 total points, but it rose when the Blue Raiders were on the road to 58 on the nose. While that might immediately have someone think this could lead to an Over, in Middle Tennessee’s last three games, all against fellow bowl teams, that number dropped to 46.3 points.

Appalachian State was an excellent offensive team, ranked 20th in scoring at 36.7 PPG and even more impressive at No.6 in points allowed at 15.7. That adds up to 52.2 PPG. On the road, the Mountaineers dipped a bit on offense and were slightly worse on defense, with the total reaching 50.5 PPG.
