Betting Odds – NHL Picks of the Day for Wednesday

Time to look ahead at the betting odds for today on the ice and as opposed to yesterday’s varied menu, Wednesday is like a trip to In and Out, where choices are limited but can still be tasty.

Mentioned yesterday could be different with 24 teams playing for the first time off an extended break and it did not disappoint with totals going 9-2-1 OVER, as seven different clubs scored at least five goals. In addition, Dallas won on the road for the first time in eight games and Washington suffered just their fifth regulation time loss to the other Eastern Conference division leader in Florida.

A couple other teams continued down a dark path and it starting to look like there is no end in sight, with Montreal losing at Philadelphia 4-2, their 20th defeat in 25 games and Boston blew yet another two goal lead at home, falling 4-3 in OT to Toronto, leaving them 11-16 SU at home.

Here is today’s take for NHL picks on all three contests, having won 13 of last 17 days.

Tampa Bay Dumps Detroit

Sole possession of second place is on the line in the East Division and the NHL odds have Tampa Bay (27-22 SU) as -160 home favorites.  The Lightning have struck quickly and often since the calendar rolled over to 2016, winning nine of 11 last month. Detroit (25-24 SU) will try and slow Tampa Bay and they might, as they have enjoyed being on the road, by winning seven of last eight.

The Red Wings have been sparked by goalie Petr Mrazek, who has posted a 1.28 goals-against average while winning seven straight road starts and he’s third in fewest goals allowed at 2.03. Directly ahead of Mrazek in this category is the Lightning’s Ben Bishop at 2.02 and in his last four starts at the Amalie Arena against Detroit in the regular season, he has a 1.22 GAA against them.

Tampa Bay has one main edge which should work to their benefit and that is the Wings are 17th in shots allowed and the Lightning are 18-3 at home against teams surrendering 29 or more shots on goal and converting on 17 percent or higher of power play chances in the second half of the season since last year.

Calgary Stumps Carolina at Home

www.vegasproinsidersdaily.comOddsmakers have lowered Calgary (21-27 SU) from -125 to -115 home favorite over Carolina (23-28 SU), as hockey bettors are backing the hotter club. This is completely understandable as the Hurricanes have won seven of 10, while the Flames have been continually snuffed out in dropping seven of nine.

However, this has been a very trendy series and here is why Calgary is the right choice. It was seven games ago when Carolina walked into the Scotiabank Saddledome and left with a victory. In the past nine matchups between these teams, the home club has taken eight, which includes a Hurricanes victory of 5-2 just 11 days ago. A quick search finds the Flames 10-3 when playing with same season revenge and when Carolina is off consecutive home wins by two or more goals, they are 3-13 the next time out.
