While we cannot wait for today’s early Washington at Chicago contest, in reviewing the betting odds our focus will be on other games, because the feeling is that conflict is too close to call.
While we to were mesmerized by what Stephen Curry and what Golden State were doing last night, we also were following the exploits of Detroit and Colorado at Coors Field which was a highly entertaining game as well. Also, with all the Central Division leaders in minor slumps, here comes Nashville with four straight wins and they have moved to within six points of third place St. Louis after routing the Blues last night 5-0.
After surveying the NHL odds for today, look to build on winning eight of the last 10 days and have a trio of NHL picks ready to go, including the other huge encounter of Los Angeles at Anaheim.
The New York Islanders (33-26 SU) are 3-0 on current seven-game road trip and the hero to this point is an unlikely one on goalie Jaroslav Halak. After being benched for a couple games after 1-4 record and horrendous 4.26 goals-against average for backup Thomas Greiss, who leads the NHL in save percentage at .930, Halak has been nearly perfect in permitting only two goals. His upgrade in play has further reinforced New York having the best penalty kill unit in the league at 87.4 percent.
Edmonton (22-41 SU) has lost seven straight and 10 of 11. The Oilers have been trading off pieces before the trade deadline as it offense nor defense has been doing the job and is collecting draft choices. Edmonton is 23rd when on the power play, making them unlikely to penetrate the Islanders by that method and trying to cool a red-hot John Tavares will not be easy.
New York opened as a -150 favorite despite having lost five in a row at Edmonton and should move to 13-2 after three consecutive road games, having better more confident players to exploit a now even thinner Oilers club.
Free Pick – New York wins
As mentioned, the other anticipated game of the day is Los Angeles (37-24 SU) at Anaheim (33-27 SU), who are separated by just four points. Our focus will be on the total for this NBC Sports Network nightcap.
In spite of winning four in a row, the Kings offense has colder the Weight Watchers stock price in scoring 10 goals in past seven games. Thankfully for them their defense has been outstanding in allowing three scores during the win streak and nine in those same seven contests.
