With right around 30 games remaining in the regular season, if you are betting hockey, what the standings look like today is not what they will be come in early April, because of the ebb and flow.
Two teams that could make up ground and potentially be a good choice for NHL picks in the Eastern Conference are Toronto and the New York Islanders. The Maple Leafs currently sit No.10 in the East, but have played three or more fewer games than the teams immediately ahead of them, Philadelphia, Boston and Florida. Of all teams currently fighting to make the Stanley Cup playoffs out of the East, Toronto has the best scoring differential and is No.6 in scoring
The Islanders still have work to do, but they have been playing much better in winning seven of 11 (7-3-1). The Isles have moved into the Top 10 in the league in scoring and goalie Thomas Greiss is now No.5 among netminders in save percentage. New York will have opportunities, because similar to Toronto, nobody has played fewer times in the East.
Out West, Los Angeles is Making a Move
After playing dull hockey most of the season, the Kings are showing signs of life in winning four straight against the NHL odds. Los Angeles is playing suffocating defense and has moved up to No.4 in the league in fewest goals allowed and they permit the lowest amount of shots on goal at under 26. The Kings are also second in shots on goal differential and a trade this month for another scorer might make the difference for the 22nd ranked offense and make L.A. a real ‘play on’ team.
