Catching up on another busy week of sports wagering.
News – Cliff Lee signs with Philadelphia
Impact- While the left-hander left many in wonderment by walking away from 30 extra million dollars, some people are going overboard about his $120 million guaranteed contract over the next five seasons. Let’s face it, 24 mil a year can buy a lot groceries. Good for him in taking into consideration family and personal taste over even more cash, let’s just not paint him as some hero for not taking ALL the money. The odds on the Phillies being World Series champions in 2011 went from 5/1 to 5/2.
– Celtics and Knicks thriller
Impact- Last night was good night for the NBA as Paul Pierce pierced the hearts of New York fans at The Garden with his game-winning jump shot. Let’s be honest, the NBA is a better league when Boston, the Lakers and New York all have good teams and with clubs like Orlando, San Antonio, Dallas and Orlando, it makes the NBA more watchable.
What a great sign by the Knicks in Amar’e Stoudemire, he’s made them dramatically better and Raymond Felton and the former Sun are nicely recreating the pick and roll that coach Mike D’Antoni had in Phoenix with Steve Nash. Even though the Knicks lost, they still covered and are astonishing 11-1-1 ATS as underdogs. Contrary to reports, Isiah Thomas had nothing to do with Knicks turnaround.
News – Miami Heat Index
Impact – Sports, just like life can have in incident that changes everything. The Miami Heat was drawing snickers from sports bettors to casual fans for their 11-8 start (6-13 ATS) despite putting together a perceived unbeatable threesome of players. ESPN’s Colin Cowherd called Miami’s appearance in Cleveland “the lock of the year” for the Cavaliers against the spread. However, that blowout victory has caused the Heat to exhale collectively and they are riding 10-game winning streak (7-2-1 ATS), performing like the squad everyone expected.
News – Oakland tops Tennessee
Impact – No, this isn’t a NFL reference, were talking about the Volunteers suffering their first loss of the season at home to Oakland U. from the state of Michigan. While it was certainly an upset, it’s not a complete shocker to avid online sports betting basketball junkies. The Grizzlies have been to the NCAA tournament twice in the past five years and in recent games, have given Illinois and Michigan State all they could handle before losing but covering the number. Tennessee was off extremely impressive win at previously undefeated Pittsburgh and was logically somewhat flat. Oakland has potential NBA player in 6’11 Keith Benson and stellar supporting cast in Larry Wright, Will Hudson and Reggie Hamilton.
