The second round is complete and the two matchups we thought we would have in the Conference Finals when the calendar turned to 2018 has turned out true.
What we have next is a betting recap of the second round which largely was about as exciting as any news about singer Chris Brown. But that did not slow down the betting action and we have the numbers to prove.
Here is how the second round stacked up, starting with the against the spread numbers.
Home Team – 12-7 SU and 8-11 ATS
Favorites – 12-7 SU and 8-11 ATS
Favorites of 5 or less – 4-3 SU and 3-4 ATS
Favorites of 5.5 to 9.5 – 4-3 SU and 4-3 ATS
Favorites of 10 or more – 4-1 SU and 1-4 ATS
For basketball bettors, the difference between the first two rounds was like Kate Upton and Roseanne. In the first round of the postseason, the favorites were 27-17-1 ATS. This time around they took some blows.
More than anything, chalky favorites were the issue and that made sense as we were down to the best eight teams in the NBA. Underdogs catching 10 or more points have too much ability and desire to just roll over and ended up showing quite a bit of fight.
Looking ahead, it’s safe to say we are done with large favorites and underdogs unless the Western Conference champion would face Cleveland without LeBron James in The Finals.
