Weekend Line Moves, Free Picks and More for April 14-16

April 14, 2017

It’s the weekend and the NBA Playoffs are about to start. Plus we have NHL line moves to talk about and series wagering in baseball. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (68-39 of late), to see what we are thinking. See you back here next week.

NHL – (77) SAN JOSE at (78) EDMONTON  10:35 ET   NBCSN

www.vegasproinsidersdaily.com Though most hockey experts agree that the talent difference overall between San Jose and Edmonton is not the great, Game 1 showed a chasm between the teams in experience. That was why the Sharks ended up winning the opener on the road. Bettors are paying attention and have dropped the Oilers from -165 to -135 for tonight’s affair. This definitely seems like a series that could go the distance and I would not be surprised to see the road team taking four games, as the visitor is 6-2 in the last eight. Nevertheless, I expect Edmonton to show more poise and find a way to win.

Betting Trend – 83% backing San Jose

NBA – Saturday - (501) INDIANA at (502) CLEVELAND  3:00 ET  ABC

When this was written on Friday, this contest had the most line movement of any of the eight NBA Playoff battles, with the total lowered from 213 to 211. This could well change by Saturday or any other contests for that matter, but we will go with what we have. I understand the playoffs are supposed to be about more defense and fewer possessions, but both these clubs make a good percentage of shots from behind the arc and are not exactly defensive juggernauts. With Cleveland 31-12 OVER when the total is 210 to 219.5 this season, I prefer the higher score.

Betting Trend – 62% on the Over

MLB – ST. LOUIS (+120) at N.Y. YANKEES (-140) (Series Betting)

Both these teams stumbled early, however, New York has rattled off four wins in a row. The three pitching matchups are fairly even, so no edge there, thus have to look at how the clubs are playing and the Yankees are just in a better frame of mind and St. Louis is playing with less enthusiasm.

Betting Trend – 50-50 split

Doug’s VPID Take – New York wins

MLB – L.A.A. ANGELS (+120) at KANSAS CITY (-140) (Series Betting)

The Kansas City offense has been lifeless to this point of the season, averaging miserable 3.0 RPG. The Angels of Anaheim have been a mild surprise at 6-4, however, two of those victories were comebacks of seven and five runs and those will not happen all season long. Both these clubs are short on pitching, but the Royals will have better starters and their bullpen will start improving, which is why I will back K.C.

Betting Trend – 75% backing L.A.A. Angels

Doug’s VPID Take – Kansas City wins

MLB – HOUSTON (-130) at OAKLAND (+110)  (Series Betting)

In comparing the two rosters, Houston has a decided edge and better starting pitching. Yet Oakland is a plucky club, does not quit and can hang around. For that reason, I think the A’s can take the Astros best shot and will win two games in this series, once again confounding the oddsmakers.

Betting Trend – 90% backing Oakland

Doug’s VPID Take – Oakland wins
