MLB – (959) COLORADO at (960) ST. LOUIS 8:15 ET ROOT-RM, FSMW (side and total)
Adam Wainwright (3-3, 6.80 ERA) of the Cardinals said, “I’m starting over,” as well he should with opposing batters hitting .330 in his eight starts this season. Though the St. Louis right-hander is 6-1 with a 1.56 ERA in eight career starts versus Colorado, faith in him has sunk, with the Cards down 25 cents to -160. However, NL road underdogs of -150 or higher are with a team batting average of .275 or better are 6-41 since 2012. If you follow Wainwright’s struggles, the total creeping from 7.5 to 8 aligns properly.
Betting Trend – 81% backing St. Louis and 95% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take - St. Louis wins and Over
MLB – (969) SEATTLE at (970) BALTIMORE 7:05 ET ROOT-NW, MASN2
Solid pitching matchup tonight with Taijuan Walker (2-2, 2.63) facing off against Chris Tillman (5-1, 2.58). The majority of those in the wagering public are of the opinion Baltimore could well lose three in a row after snapping off seven consecutive victories, as the Orioles have flown from -135 to -110. Seattle’s offense has been more consistent lately and after last night’s impressive 10-0 drubbing of the Birds, they are only 10-20 after a win by four runs or more. This money line fits right into the O’s wheelhouse since they are 11-2 at home with a money line of -100 to -150 this season.
Betting Trend – 54% backing Baltimore
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Baltimore
MLB – (971) TAMPA BAY at (972) TORONTO 7:07 ET SUN,RSN
R.A. Dickey (2-4, 4.31) has the hop back in the knuckleball. After five starts, the Toronto righty had a ERA sitting at 6.75, but in his last trio of outings he’s at superb 1.27. Nonetheless, with Tampa Bay mashing the Blue Jays the last two nights by a total score of 25-4, Toronto has tumbled from -143 to -125. Just keep in mind home teams after two straight games with at least seven less hits than their opponent, with a hot starting pitcher who’s ERA is less than 2.50 in his last three starts are 37-11 the last 19 years.
Betting Trend – 83% backing Toronto
Doug’s VPID Take – Toronto wins
MLB – (977) N.Y. YANKEES at (978) ARIZONA 9:40 ET YES, FSAZ
While Nathan Eovaldi’s (3-2, 4.85) numbers do not scream success, they are far superior to those Shelby Miller (1-4, 6.94) for Arizona, which has propelled the Yankees from -120 to -140 and higher. The New York right-hander is 3-0 with a 3.96 ERA in his last four starts and is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four starts against the Diamondbacks lifetime. With Miller’s inability to win hardly at all the last couple years and the Yankees 4-12 on the road this season, slim pickings, but I will lean with New York to avoid the sweep.
Betting Trend – 86% backing Arizona
Doug’s VPID Take – New York wins
