Early on, rather quiet on the Thunder and Spurs for Game 5 when it comes to line moves. However, we do have action to follow on baseball and the Stanley Cup playoffs this evening. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (45-37 of late) to see what we are thinking. See you back here on tomorrow.
MLB – (959) ARIZONA at (960) COLORADO 8:40 ET FSAZ, ROOT-RM (side and total)
Arizona’s nine-game road trip is on the upswing after being swept in Miami with four consecutive victories. The Diamondbacks offense is heating up like the temperatures in the desert and they have tallied 26 runs since being shutout in South Beach. With Chris Rusin (1-0, 4.43 ERA) filling in as starter for Colorado, the Rockies have fallen from -130 to -110 or lower against the Snakes. What is interesting about Colorado tumbling is the total is to, down from 11.5 to 11, with some sportsbooks at 10.5. Despite Rusin general ineffectiveness as a starter, he has a 1.71 ERA versus Arizona (all on the road) and Snakes starter Rubby De La Rosa has gone 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA in four career outings at Coors Field. Let’s back the visitor who is 11-6 on the road this season and is 12-3 OVER after a game where they had six or more extra base hits.
Betting Trend – 83% backing Over and 95% on Colorado
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over and Lean Arizona
MLB – (961) N.Y. METS at (962) L.A. DODGERS 10:10 ET SNY, SNLA
Have to admit to being befuddled. The Mets will start Jacob deGrom (3-1, 1.99) against Alex Wood (1-3, 5.18) for L.A. and New York has been flipped from a -115 favorite to a +100 or higher underdog. Granted, Wood pitches much better in spacious Dodger Stadium with a 1.29 ERA this season, but nobody is confusing him with Clayton Kershaw. The left-hander is 0-3 with 4.35 ERA against the Mets, while deGrom and his club have won three of his five outings vs L.A. with a 2.75 ERA. With New York 11-5 away and 10-2 with deGrom on the road when the money line is +125 to -125 the last two seasons (Mets record), I will back visitor.
Betting Trend – 87% backing N.Y. Mets
Doug’s VPID Take – N.Y. Mets win
MLB – (963) KANSAS CITY at (964) N.Y. YANKEES 7:05 ET FSKC, YES
Kansas City is finding the role of the hunted not to their liking, losers of 10 of 13. The Royals have a deadly combination going, lousy starting pitching and inept offense. During this stretch, the Royals rotation has a 6.86 ERA and manager Ned Yost’s batting order has not come close to bailing them out with 2.7 runs per contest. Kris Medlen (1-3, 6.85) hardly looks like the answer for K.C. against Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 2.29) and the Royals have blown up from +150 to +170 road underdogs in the Bronx.
Betting Trend – 84% backing N.Y. Yankees
Doug’s VPID Take – N.Y. Yankees wins
NHL – (75) WASHINGTON at (76) PITTSBURGH 8:05 ET NBCSN
Playoff series bring a lot of emotions and the shifts in thinking can be enormous from game to game. Though Pittsburgh losing to Washington in Game 5 was hardly a stunner, it has caused consternation among hockey bettors. With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin largely non-factors in the series with four total points between them, the Penguins are sinking home favorites from -135 to -125. The first team to score three goals first has won each contest and my money is on Washington to accomplish this.
Betting Trend – 62% backing Pittsburgh
Doug’s VPID Take – Washington wins
