With so many afternoon games, we have a couple of late matinees with line moves, plus a pair of night contests, so let’s get to this today. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks (117-90, 56.5% of late) to see what we are thinking. See you back here tomorrow.
MLB – (907) WASHINGTON at (908) L.A. DODGERS 10:10 ET ESPN
After a 2-0 start to the road trip, Washington has lost four in a row and if the direction of the money line is correct, it could reach five. The Nationals with Joe Ross (6-4, 3.13 ERA) starting have gone from +115 to +130 tonight at Los Angeles. Teenage phenom Julio Urias (0-2, 4.15) will get the ball for the Dodgers and might be at disadvantage since this is the third straight left-hander the Nats will have seen in the series. Rather iffy on this one, cause I can make a case for Washington, yet cannot overlook their 16-40 record as underdogs of +110 or higher recently.
Betting Trend – 70% backing Los Angeles
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Los Angeles
MLB – (915) SEATTLE at (916) DETROIT 7:10 ET RTNW, FSD
Baseball bettors interest in this series continues for a third consecutive day, with the pattern continuing, the sportsbooks numbers are going against Detroit. The Tigers have won the first two games of the series, yet are crumbling from -130 to -115 or lower. The thought must be Seattle will destroy Detroit’s worst-rated bullpen in the AL, because starter Michael Fulmer (7-2, 2.43) has been brilliant for the Tigers. The Mariners counter with Hisashi Iwakuma (6-5, 4.18), but are unsteady choice thanks to 6-14 June record. Detroit looks like the right play, however, the Tigers are 2-11 after two straight wins by two runs or less since last season and eventually that bullpen will haunt them.
Betting Trend – 50-50 split
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Seattle
MLB – (921) MILWAUKEE at (922) OAKLAND 3:35 ET MLB-TV
Though Oakland has only won twice in last seven outings, in this interleague affair they have risen from -110 to -126 over Milwaukee. The Brewers at struggling even worse as losers of seven of eight. The A’s will go for 2-0 sweep of the Brew Crew with 23-year old Daniel Mengden (0-2, 2.25) taking the ball and having quickly impressed everyone in organization after starting at Double-A. The Athletics are counting on their rookie to come through and they are 9-2 after allowing three runs or less in two straight games this season.
Betting Trend – 90% backing Oakland
Doug’s VPID Take – Oakland wins
MLB – (923) ARIZONA at (924) TORONTO 4:05 ET FSAZ, RSN
The Diamondbacks are as hot as the Arizona weather, winners of five straight (all on the road) and eight of 10. Subtract the 7-4 loss to the Dodgers and the Arizona pitching staff has really been doing the job, permitting 15 runs in the nine other games. It is being presumed Robbie Ray (4-5, 4.32) and J.A. Happ (8-3, 3.41) will do their jobs today as the total has slipped from 9.5 to 9. I am inclined to agree with Toronto 14-5 UNDER vs. lefties and Happ 23-10 UNDER playing against a team with a losing record the last three seasons.
Betting Trend – 65% backing Over
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Under
