Betting the National League is not easy despite a number of line moves like we have today, because larger favorites just keep getting bigger. A couple other line moves also involved pitching changes, which explained why they happened. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks, which are winning consistently at 31-22, to see what we are thinking. See you back here on tomorrow.
NBA – (579) HOUSTON at (580) GOLDEN STATE 10:35 ET TNT
Though Golden State rang up 121 points at Houston in Game 4, there is a bit of mystery about the Warriors offense now with no Stephen Curry for at least a couple weeks. The total for this conflict has slid from 214 to 212.5. Three of the four games have been UNDER’s and if Golden State can start shooting well again, Houston will give up like they did in the second half Sunday and they will drag down the number. Have to agree with line move direction, because this Rockets club and – heart – should not be used in same sentence.
Betting Trend – 52% backing Under
Doug’s VPID Take - Play Under
MLB – (909) PITTSBURGH at (910) COLORADO 8:40 ET ROOT-P, ROOT-RM
With Pittsburgh winning five of six and Colorado on the wrong side of the scoreboard four consecutive times, the Pirates going from -120 to +100 was eyebrow raising. Jon Gray for Colorado has a much larger upside than the Bucs Jonathon Niese (3-0, 4.24 ERA), but if the Rockies are to win, he will have to spot pitches better. Gray’s season debut included 10 strikeouts, five runs allowed on seven hits (two homers), all in five innings. The No.3 pick in 2013 has outstanding slider, but has to develop command. Neise is nothing special, but Rocks are 6-20 at Coors Field after a loss by four runs or more the last two seasons.
Betting Trend – 66% backing Pittsburgh
Doug’s VPID Take - Pittsburgh wins
MLB – (921) N.Y. YANKEES at (922) TEXAS 8:05 ET ESPN
It is a battle of left-handers in the Lone Star State and neither has shown much to this point. C.C. Sabathia (1-1, 5.28) is a shell of the ace he used to be and is just hanging on. Martin Perez (0-2, 4.50) will attempt to scratch in the win column in his fifth start of 2016. The money is following Texas, up from -110 to -125 or higher. The Rangers ended their four-game losing streak last night in grand fashion clobbering the Yankees 10-1 and they are 12-4 after two straight games where they stranded five or less runners on base.
Betting Trend – 95% backing Texas
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Texas
MLB – (925) KANSAS CITY at (926) L.A.A. ANGELS 10:05 ET FSKC, FSW
With Houston really scuffling and the rest of the teams in the AL West playing ordinary, baseball bettors believe the Angels can reach .500 and sweep the World Series champions. Having won the first two tilts in decisive fashion, the Halos have been floated from -115 to -130 or higher over Kansas City. Angels pitcher Nick Tropeano (1-0, 1.69) has been terrific, while the Royals Chris Young (1-3, 6.41) has not. With the L.A. offense hot (23 runs in last four games), they should have their way with Young and with the line adjustment, Mike Trout and friends are 30-12 as a home favorite of -125 to -175 since last season.
Betting Trend – 77% backing L.A.A. Angels
Doug’s VPID Take – L.A.A. Angels win
