With this being a likely historic day in the NBA on two fronts, we are following the line moves on the two games that matter most. Also, with the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs, we will cover a line move that ends up being tricky, at least we think so, from the sportsbooks prospective. Lastly, we have a MLB total that is worth further looking into. Take a minute to review all the betting trends and our free picks to see what we are thinking. See you back here tomorrow.
NBA – (721) UTAH at (722) L.A. LAKERS 10:35 ET ESPN2
It is Kobe Bryant’s final game and though the Lakers stink on ice (Sorry, thinking about the Kings at the Staples Center), bettors are convinced the Purple and Gold along with Kobe will put up quite a fight in his swansong. Utah has to win to have any chance to make the playoffs and will know by tipoff if Houston won, which would end their season. The Jazz were released at -8 and taken down to -5. Utah has nobody to blame but themselves, losing last three home games and if Rockets win as expected (-15 point favorites), why can’t Kobe and company go out with a bang?

Doug’s VPID Take – Lean L.A. Lakers
NBA – (723) MEMPHIS at (724) GOLDEN STATE 10:35 ET ESPN
Golden State goes after the record tonight, 73 wins. Bettors are certain they will do so and with pizzazz over Memphis, up from -16 to -18.5. The buzz at the Oracle will be even louder than usual and the Grizzlies will likely rest veteran players, which could turn into a rout if the Warriors players want it to and desiring to make a statement. It’s a big number for sure, but so is 73 wins in the regular season.
Betting Trend – 71% backing Memphis
Doug’s VPID Take – Lean Golden State
MLB – (921) BALTIMORE at (922) BOSTON 7:10 ET ESPN2
The Baltimore Orioles are baseball’s last unbeaten team at 7-0 and they have done so with amazingly good pitching and thumping the ball with 13 home runs. Maybe the O’s offense stalls some, but is Boston’s Joe Kelly really the guy to derail the Orioles Express right now, as the total has sunk from 9 to 8.5? I certainly do not think so and though the Birds Ubaldo Jimenez had a good first start, he’s not exactly reliable. With April totals of 8 or 8.5 on home teams who have lost three of four 63-21OVER the last five years, going against direction of move.
Betting Trend – 70% backing Under
Doug’s VPID Take – Play Over
NHL – (53) N.Y. RANGERS at (54) PITTSBURGH 8:05 ET USA
There has not been an official word, but all signs point to Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury taking the ice after suffering concussion on March 31 and not playing since. Interesting to note the Penguins opened as -135 home favorite and they have been jettisoned to -165. Why this is fascinating is because that is the largest home money line on Pittsburgh in three years against the Rangers. Granted, the Pens are smoldering in winning 14 of 16, but based on recent history, the opening line in my opinion took into consideration Fleury would start and wagers have driven the marketplace, not his presumed appearance. Just thought provoking.
Betting Trend – 97% backing Pittsburgh
