The marks the halfway point of the season and for those betting NFL football, it is time to either pick up the pace or keep doing what you have been doing and cashing those winning tickets.
Whatever the case, getting an early look at this week’s card can place one in the right frame of mind to make wise judgments, either right away or later in the week.
Like usual, sought out the NFL odds at BetonLine, who is typically first to the marketplace and has great bonuses along with superb variety of props. Here is what stands out right away.
New Orleans and Carolina are both chasing Atlanta, but each is favored than do no worse and keep pace with the Falcons and possibly pick up momentum with a victory. The Saints upset of Seattle has to be a real boost to them as they won a game without having to score 35 points. Opening as three-point favorites at San Francisco, they are aware of the shortcomings of the 49ers and as long as Drew Brees and his teammates keep the pressure on the Niners, for NFL picks they should be a good choice.
Arguably, for the first time this season, Carolina played with the passion and aggressiveness against Arizona, which has been lacking all season. Being a field goal at Los Angeles, if the Panthers stuff below average Rams running game and get after Case Keenum, they have everything else talent-wise to become a pointspread winner.
San Diego let Denver off the hook on Sunday, unable to score from inside the five yard-line on first and goal in the fourth quarter down 27-19. The Chargers are 3-5 and could have better record, yet the fact remains it is probably indicative of who they are. San Diego opening as 4.5-point home favorites over Tennessee is cause for pause with the Titans at 4-4 and having an offense which has averaged 30 points per game the last month. This confrontation will require addition research on both teams.
Outright first place will be on the line in this AFC West showdown. Denver as the defending Super Bowl champs are 6-2, while Oakland also at 6-2 is out to prove it is time for a change in the division. Not sure the Raiders as one-point home favorites will hold up as the week progresses, given their woes at home and the Broncos 8-1 and 7-1-1 ATS in recent meetings. With Oakland proving to themselves they can win on the road, this is their chance to show the world they can get done at home in a big ballgame.
